Uncle grooms niece into exchanging explicit photos

IPOH – It began with just frequently messaging and exchanging shirtless photos on mobile phones, until eventually getting trapped in the depths of an extreme sexual addiction.

This was experienced by a 14-year-old girl who became a victim of child sexual grooming by her own uncle.

The shocking revelation was shared with Sinar by Larut Matang and Selama District Children’s Protection Management Association (PPKK) chairperson Norehan Yusof.

According to Norehan, the 40-year-old man was said to have frequently sent messages to the victim before they eventually started reciprocating and exchanging pictures several times.

She said the case began to unfold after the victim's aunt read the messages on the mobile phone before reporting it to the family.

Although the matter could be stopped, the trauma experienced left deep scars, to the point that the victim suffered from serious behavioral disorders.

"The victim admitted to being addicted and could not control those feelings.

"This addiction caused the victim to start sending various explicit videos and pictures to her male schoolmates. She also even offered herself to engage in intimate relationships with her friends.

"This matter was only detected after one of the involved male students, aged 16, reported it to the school administration," she said.

Norehan, who is also a counseling teacher, said the situation shows that the victim had nearly turned into a perpetrator of sexual abuse against other children.

"When questioned, the teenager showed cooperative actions as if nothing had happened," she said.

Norehan explained that in situations like that, the trauma experienced by a victim can trigger a cycle of crime if not addressed holistically and effectively.

"Like one case involving a father who raped his five-year-old daughter and sodomised his 12-year-old son, resulting in both of them experiencing very severe trauma.

"When in a counseling session, the boy stated a desire to do similar things to other people because he felt the world was unfair to him.

"The emotional trauma experienced caused these children to develop a vindictive nature and high levels of resentment," she said.

Norehan's experience handling cases since 2018 shows a rising trend in sexual offenses against children, including pedophilia, with most involving individuals known to the victims.

She said a pedophile usually harbors sexual fantasies towards children under the age of 13 and often acts outside the bounds of reason to satisfy those sexual fantasies.

"Usually, perpetrators use gadgets and gifts as their main strategy. They treat the victim very well so that the child believes that individual is the safest person to approach," she said.
