OpenAI improves Codex iOS experience with turn completion alerts, new commands, more

Last week, OpenAI updated ChatGPT for iPhone and iPad with access to Codex, its agentic coding tool for Mac. Since launching, the Codex iOS experience has improved in a few key ways.

Here’s what’s new with Codex in ChatGPT for iPhone and iPad this week

For starters, when Codex in ChatGPT launched on iOS, there was a frustrating bug that prevented OpenAI accounts that use Sign in with Apple from setting up the feature.

In terms of features, Codex in ChatGPT has added support for push notifications for turn completion.

That means you can be alerted on iPhone or iPad when a task on Codex for Mac completes or prompts you for input. No need to monitor the progress.

OpenAI has also added support for more commands, starting with /fork and /side is on the way.

Looking ahead, we’ll likely see new features and capabilities arrive in the Codex desktop app later today. OpenAI has regularly updated Codex with bigger feature releases on Thursdays for the last several weeks.

Codex for Mac is available here, and ChatGPT is on the App Store.

Codex is quickly becoming the power user version of ChatGPT

In addition to enhancing the Codex desktop app, OpenAI recently introduced a subscription designed for Codex users. OpenAI also released GPT-5.5, upgrading the capabilities of ChatGPT and Codex, alongside Images 2 for image generation.

Codex only arrived on the Mac in February after starting out as a command line interface tool.
