'Bunny!' 2026 Movie Ending Explained & Summary: Is Phong Dead?

The Vietnamese film Bunny is all about toxic relationships and how they can destroy people. But there’s one crucial detail that’s totally messed with my head, and that’s the fact that the end of the film sees the most successful woman in it completely give up on the empire she built and succumb to “family values.” Look, I’m not saying this is something women should absolutely never even consider; the choice is always theirs. But in this case, Linh doesn’t just give up on “Shoulder Sister,” she believes she was at fault for her husband cheating. This old-school patriarchal viewpoint ruins a movie that’s trying desperately to be alt and kind of plays out like a thriller when really it’s all about mind games in toxic relationships. A woman is tired of her differently-abled boyfriend, but he’s also mentally abusing her, so she decides to build a relationship with her boss to feel better about herself. Her boss is too much of a coward to tell his wife that he doesn’t like being neglected, but is happy to receive the title of “Perfect Husband” anyway. It all feels really dry, and don’t even get me started on how terribly the sister is written as well. Do women have no respect in this world? I really don’t know. But I guess I should stop ranting and jump straight into the ending of  the film.

Spoiler Alert

Why Does Lan Hate Son So Much?

Bunny’s ending sees Lan take her husband Son back after spending the whole movie hating on him because she was “jealous.” Apparently, Son is a saint, but he’s also a useless husband who can’t even look after their daughter properly. Turns out, she isn’t even his daughter, but he’s dedicated his life to Lan, so she should’ve never been mean to him. This entire plot was only put in the movie to parallel Linh and Phong’s, showing us that what a couple looks like from the outside might not be indicative of what’s actually happening on the inside. Despite everything that Lan puts Son through, even throwing a metal tissue stand at his forehead, making him bleed at one point, he quietly listens. When she accuses him of cheating, he doesn’t say anything either. Because all he thinks about is how useless he is. But at the end of the day, we’re meant to believe that Lan is the bad guy in this relationship, because she’s been stepping on him right from the start. On the show “Shoulder Sister,” Bunny says that she thinks it’s hard to leave someone who loves you too much. This is kind of the case with Lan and Son, I think. Son seems to be mad about Lan, but I can’t really say we see the same feelings in Lan. I guess it’s an older wife, younger husband dynamic, too. He’s handsome and eye candy, and she’s basically his sugar mommy, but why? It does feel like Lan kind of settled with Son. We don’t really see that she loves him, but I guess there’s something about sacrifice we’re meant to take from this. At the end of the film, though, they seem to be happy enough, and Son certainly loves the daughter (now his daughter) like she’s his own. That’s one thing that’s totally evident. Guess it’s meant to be Lan’s insecurities coming out in the form of jealousy, but at the end of the day, there’s no need for any of it, because an imperfect husband will never cheat, eh?

How Did Phong Die?

In the end, Linh invites Bunny to come home and talk it out with Phong and her. She’s disappointed to hear that Phong made her the villain of their love story, and she wants a big confrontation with all 3 of them around. At this point, it does look like both women are going to leave Phong and make him suffer for treating them badly, but when Bunny is leaving the house, she’s shocked to see that Kim’s reached there and has a knife in his hand, already having stabbed the housekeeper so that nobody knows he’s come to visit. There’s a lot of “crazy” talk in this film, but is anyone actually “crazy?” No, I wouldn’t say so. I think desperation is the word we’re looking for, and in this case, Kim is desperate to be with a beautiful woman like Bunny. She was with him through his ups and downs, having supported him after his accident, but despite all of that, when she wants to leave him, he’s not willing to let her go. Maybe he thinks nobody else can love him the way she did. However, when she chooses to cheat on him with Phong, it gets to his head. A richer, more handsome and “whole” man, Phong can give Bunny everything she wants. There’s a scene in the film where a man makes fun of Kim for having a prosthetic leg. It’s absolutely disgusting to hear the way it’s laughed off as if he’s not done anything wrong, but Kim doesn’t do anything in response; he simply looks at him a bit angrily. I think months of degradation from people like that man might’ve triggered something in Kim, leading to him going as far as to kill someone just to be with Bunny. His goal is simple: get rid of Phong and his wife, and he can live happily ever after with Bunny. Also, I don’t mean in any way that Kim didn’t torment Bunny when they were together. He was completely wrong to hold her back the way he did, and so that makes him a big villain in this story.

Why Does Linh End “Shoulder Sister?”

Linh finally chooses to end “Shoulder Sister,” her highly successful talk show where she plays agony aunt to people who need relationship advice. This is where she first met Bunny, too. After Phong’s death and everything that happened with Bunny, Linh probably believes she’s a hypocrite. Had Linh not been a “negligent wife,” her husband wouldn’t have tried to comfort Bunny by telling her that he felt similarly. This made Linh look like the bad guy in this situation, but she was never in the wrong. Just because she said no to sexual activity doesn’t mean she is the big villain this film tries to make her seem like. She’s willing to believe her husband will not cheat again and even forgive him because she feels guilty. So, when he dies, she probably feels like it’ll be an insult to his memory if she continues to do the show. Now that she’s pregnant (proof that he was still getting action), she needs to look after the baby, and she’s all alone. Capitalizing on the role of “agony aunt” isn’t something unusual. I suppose at the end of the day we’re meant to see this film shed light on the negative effects of such shows on our lives.

Who Is The Real Villain Of The Movie?

We already talked about Kim being a big villain in this film, and I think there’s a chance Bunny would’ve even gone to prison for his death because, though he dealt the final blow to himself by pushing the knife deeper inside, it was Bunny who was holding it in the first place. Involuntary manslaughter or whatever. But this doesn’t make her a villain. She, too, is a victim of Phong, which makes him the worst character in the film. Not only does he act all high and mighty, pretending he’s the “perfect” husband, but he’s also the one who makes Bunny feel like he wants her and then decides to cut her loose just as quickly. There’s no guilt there; all the crocodile tears in the world couldn’t make me side with Phong.

Does The Film Have A Happy Ending?

Despite Phong’s death, I think Bunny has a happy ending, because Linh seems to be happy with her family, and so are Lan and Son. They all go back to the location where the film began, enjoying another vacation where Linh can relax as a pregnant woman. She seems to be doing better for herself, also working or volunteering with kids.
