67 years on, SUPP remains trusted guardian of fair policies, real development

KUCHING, June 4: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) remains a trusted guardian of fair policies, stability and real development in Sarawak after 67 years since its formation in 1959, says Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin.

In a statement marking SUPP’s 67th anniversary today, Yap said the party has remained steadfast in its mission to serve Sarawak through inclusive, moderate and practical policies that benefit all communities regardless of race, religion or background.

“While political trends and slogans may come and go, SUPP has remained focused on what matters most — protecting the interests of Sarawakians and delivering tangible improvements to people’s lives,” he said.

He added that SUPP, as a component party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), continues to play a key role in safeguarding fair and inclusive policies under the GPS-led State Government.

He contrasted Sarawak’s political stability under GPS with what he described as instability and “endless power struggles” elsewhere, saying the State’s steady governance has enabled the government to pursue transformative initiatives in infrastructure, education, healthcare, digital connectivity, renewable energy and economic development.

“All Sarawakians are less concerned about political rhetoric and more concerned about people-centric public infrastructure projects being planned and implemented. This includes upgraded roads, maintained drains, flood mitigation works, improved public facilities and expanded economic opportunities.

“This is where the GPS model of governance has delivered real results,” he continued.

He cited ongoing upgrading works at Kota Sentosa Town Square, improvements to community facilities, assistance to schools and places of worship through Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants, and infrastructure upgrades under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) as examples of delivery-focused governance.

Yap also highlighted recent progress in the Stampin Flood Mitigation Project, noting that the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) has called for tenders for Phase 1 after years of delay under previous administrations.

“This marks a significant step towards addressing long-standing flood issues affecting residents in Kota Sentosa and surrounding areas,” he said.

Yap added that SUPP and GPS remain focused on building, delivering and solving problems rather than political confrontation.

“As SUPP celebrates its 67th anniversary, we reaffirm our commitment to remain a trusted guardian of fairness, inclusivity, moderation and good governance within GPS.

“SUPP will continue to speak up for the people, safeguard Sarawak’s interests, and ensure that development benefits every community,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
