10yo boy dies despite rescue efforts following drowning incident in Sematan retreat camp

SEMATAN, June 4: A boy estimated to be about 10 years old drowned during an incident at a retreat camp here yesterday evening.

According to the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the Sematan District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received an emergency call from members of the public regarding the drowning at 5.38pm on June 3.

It is understood the incident occurred at the camp’s swimming pool.

APM personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene and upon arrival, conducted a pulse check on the victim before administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while waiting for medical personnel from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and police officers to arrive.

Despite efforts to revive him, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The victim’s body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action and investigation.
