iPadOS 27: Four new iPad features being announced next week

Apple’s big WWDC keynote is almost here, and rumors indicate iPadOS 27’s unveiling will bring these four new features—plus a lot more.

#1: Automatic tab grouping in Safari

One of the new Safari features rumored for iPadOS 27 is an ‘Organize Tabs’ feature.

Per Bloomberg, this is an optional AI-powered feature coming to Safari across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS.

When activated, Organize Tabs will automatically sort your various tabs into different groups based on related topics. So if you’re researching a topic for a school project, while doing some shopping, and keeping productivity web tools nearby, Safari can automatically organize those different tabs so they’re sorted together.

#2: Spotlight Search overhaul

Spotlight Search got a major upgrade in macOS Tahoe last year, but none of those changes came to iPad. Fortunately, iPadOS 27 is rumored to bring its own Spotlight changes thanks to a Siri-inspired overhaul.

In iPadOS 27, iPad users will be able to ask Siri questions in the same interface where they find suggested apps, search for files, and more.

Mark Gurman, writing at Bloomberg:

This integration of Spotlight and Siri should make Apple’s systemwide search far more powerful.

#3: Natural language creation in Shortcuts app

Apple’s Shortcuts app, the go-to automation tool on iPad, will be more user-friendly than ever in iPadOS 27.

That’s because Shortcuts will reportedly let you create new shortcuts using natural language requests.

Instead of manually building your own shortcuts, the app will let you simply type or speak your request for what you want a shortcut to do. Then, vibe-coding style, the Shortcuts app will build you a shortcut that does exactly what you want. It will even be able to create brand new actions to suit your needs.

#4: Systemwide grammar checker

Apple launched a handful of AI-powered writing tools in iPadOS 18. Beyond making those tools more accessible in iPadOS 27, there’s a key new addition coming: a grammar checker.

Similar to Grammarly, Apple is building a grammar checking tool into iPadOS 27 systemwide. Mark Gurman writes:

For students or professionals writing papers or otherwise doing written work on iPad, the new grammar checker could prove very useful.
