That is what Wong Tuck Meng believes.

That faced with a runaway bus on a highway, any driver would do what he did — pull in front of it, use the barrier to slow it down, stay in position until it stopped.

He may be right.

By the time the 40-year-old lorry driver made his move, the bus had already struck several vehicles and kept going — the incident unfolding on the North-South Expressway near the Menora Tunnel in Perak, one of the highway’s most accident-prone stretches.

Until Wong intervened, so to speak.

He honked continuously to warn traffic ahead while adjusting his speed and position, using his lorry as a buffer wall between the bus and everything in front of it.

He told TV3 he had no time to think about his own safety.

He is a father of four.

When the praise came — and it came in volume — he didn’t take it.

It is a generous belief.
