Spoiler Alert
Who stabbed Sevgi? In the final episode of season 3 a tragic incident unfolds. Sevgi, who had beaten cancer, had finally adopted a child and become a mother, was suddenly stabbed by a hooded stranger. She was on her way to a work meeting when the incident occurred and she collapsed on the street. She is immediately taken to the hospital and her best friend, Ada, performs surgery on her. She had to remove her spleen due to the deep wound and all she could tell her friends, and family was that they must pray for her quick recovery. So why was Sevgi stabbed? As we already know, Sevgi is a talented prosecutor, and she has been working on Halime’s case which ultimately results in the unforeseen incident. Halime is a young orphan girl from Hatay who lost her entire family in an earthquake. Her foster parent, Sultan, noticed that she was always lost and sad and she didn’t know what to do about it. She consulted Sevgi because she suspected that maybe Halime had been abused before, but the little girl didn’t disclose much about her past so they couldn’t come up with a proper explanation. But one day when Sevgi visits Halime she notices that the little girl has drawn a dark angry figure on the wall of their neighbor, Mr. Yakup. He is the landlord and he helps out the Sultan with food and other supplies. As it turns out, when Sultan has to leave, she drops off Halime at Mr. Yakup’s place. Sevgi figures out that he is the reason behind Halime’s sad eyes. The little girl always sketches dark figures indicating the anger, helplessness and sadness that she silently carries within her. Sevgi is determined to punish Mr. Yakup and the fact that he gets extremely scared and threatens to destroy Sevgi’s life is a clear indication that he is guilty.
Sultan at first begs Sevgi not to get Mr. Yakup and his family involved, she fears that she will be thrown out and they won’t have any place to go. But Sevgi refuses to let go without bringing justice to the little girl. Sultan trusted Mr. Yakup and his family but she soon realized she had been very wrong with her judgment. Meanwhile, Sevgi decides to adopt Halime, she has grown close to the little one, and since she knows about her trauma, she figures she can help Halime feel safe. It takes Halime time to trust Sevgi and Fiko, but she soon realizes that they have nothing but love for her. She gradually starts using colors in her sketches, indicating that Sevgi and Fiko’s presence has changed her life. The best part about her new parents is that they never expected her to forget her birth parents rather they repeatedly tell her that she must hold on to her memories of them and that they are eternally grateful to them for creating a beautiful girl like Halime. Sevgi wasn’t scared, she chose to become a prosecutor because she wanted to bring justice, especially to those who were denied it. Sevgi’s father had been murdered when she was just a child and the cops never found the killer. That is primarily what motivated her to become a prosecutor so there’s no way she is going to let a criminal walk away scot-free just because he’d tried to intimidate her. The court eventually found Mr. Yakup guilty of sexual abuse of a minor and sentenced him to 15 years in prison. That day, Sevgi felt immensely proud of the work that she did, and she walked out of the court with her head held high.
In Another Self season 3’s ending, it is revealed that the man who stabbed Sevgi wasn’t just a random drug addict without any motive, he was Mr. Yakup’s nephew and he’d been asked by his uncle to attack Sevgi for revenge.
Does Sevgi die? When Sevgi’s husband, Fiko, visits her in the hospital she begs him to take her home. She refuses to stay confined in the hospital and even Ada struggles to ignore her friend’s request. It is evident that Sevgi sensed that she didn’t have much time left, and she figured she would rather spend the time she had at the place she loved than in a lifeless hospital. Sevgi’s bed is fixed outside in the backyard garden, and she is surrounded by the people she loves. She removes her oxygen mask and holds Halime’s hand; she asks the little girl to not be scared and reminds her that she has a great father and two very loving aunts to look after her. Halime, with tears rolling down her cheeks, requests that Sevgi in case she meets her parents she must tell them that their little girl is doing fine. During her final moments, Sevgi is reminded of the beautiful life she has experienced with her endearing soul sisters, her loving husband and her doting mother. Although her life has been unexpectedly cut short, Sevgi bravely made peace with death, and she looked back at her life with gratitude. She beat cancer, she became a mother, she helped a traumatized little girl feel at home, she made her friends feel cherished, her husband feel valued and she spread warmth in every way she could. Sevgi takes her last breath in the backyard garden, the wind in her hair, the sun shining on her face, she is one with nature now.
How did Leyla and Ada cope with their friend’s absence?Leyla and Ada are devastated as they watch their best friend take her last breath. They didn’t see this coming, Sevgi was living a happy healthy life with her husband and her daughter, she finally had everything she’d wished for, and suddenly she was forced to leave everyone behind. This wasn’t fair but at the same time they had no choice but to accept fate. Ada decides to confront Ali, the man who’d stabbed Sevgi. She wants to look into his eyes and tell him what a great woman her friend was. As she describes everything Sevgi stood for, and how loving she was, the man breaks down. Ali isn’t a cold-blooded criminal who is proud of what he did, he feels guilty and admits that he’d been forced by his uncle to commit the crime, and he agrees to testify about it in court. This of course won’t help Ada get her friend back, but at least justice will be served. Ada got the funding needed to start her therapy institute, but she just couldn’t go ahead with it. She momentarily considered dropping the plan, but Ozgur begs her to reconsider. Sevgi wouldn’t have wanted her to give up on her dream, especially one that could heal countless people just like her. The treatment had done wonders for Sevgi and to keep her memory alive it was important that Ada didn’t give up on her endeavor. She agrees to think about her decision, and she ultimately opens her therapy institute.
Sevgi’s loved ones, her mother, Foki and his father, Leyla, Ada and Ozgur gathered to celebrate her, she’d left them a message, one that she’d recorded when she was diagnosed with cancer and thought she wouldn’t survive it. Although a lot had happened between the time she recorded the message and the present, Sevgi’s love for everyone remained the same. Surprisingly her friends were living exactly the life that she’d envisioned for them, the constant pain of not having her around remained, but they tried to be happy with the life that they’d built. Sevgi didn’t want her family and friends to sulk after her passing, she hoped they would dance to the tune she’d recorded in the video. Everyone chose to celebrate Sevgi instead of just mourning her loss, they danced knowing that she must be watching them from afar.
Is this the final chapter of the series? It looks like season 3 of Another Self is the final bittersweet chapter of the series. The show ends on a rather unexpected note with Sevgi’s death but then again this wasn’t ever a typically happily-ever-after show. After her divorce and a couple of messy relationships, Ada finds love. She was apprehensive about giving Ozgur a chance when she learned about his past relationship and his plan to travel to Africa for a year. But she eventually realized that her fear stemmed from the abandonment issue that she’d developed as a child whose father had two families to look after. She was afraid of ending up in the same position that her mother did and that stopped her from exploring romantic possibilities. But after she started to process her fears and her trauma, she figured she must give Ozgur a chance. Ozgur was completely mesmerized by Ada from the day that they first met and even though they barely spoke in between he continued to look out for funding opportunities that could help Ada expand. He knew they would be together, or at least he wanted to do his best to ensure that her dreams were fulfilled. Surprisingly, Ozgur and Ada successfully navigated through the long-distance phase, and she’d never been more in love with someone. Although Ozgur wasn’t sure if he wanted to raise a child, the ending suggests that his opinion eventually changed and now Ada and Ozgur are parents to Ruzgar, their baby boy.
Leyla refused to put up with her manipulative husband anymore so chose to walk away from their loveless marriage. As much as she cared about Erdem, she knew they weren’t meant to be together, and they were simply forcing it. She ended her marriage with Erdem on good terms. Leyla chose not to jump into a relationship immediately; she focused on completing her degree in psychology and figuring out her life on her own for a while. She eventually ended up with Yorgos, the Greek chef who started working at the tavern. In season 3, Ada was reunited with her half-sister, Deniz; they’d hit a rough patch at the beginning when they tried to get to know each other, but Ada eventually realized where Deniz’s anger stemmed from. She had been through a lot as a child, from a father juggling between two families, to a mother who felt abandoned and killed herself. Ada tried to understand her and she helped Deniz realize that regardless of how things unfolded in life she must know that her parents have always loved her and now as sisters it is their duty to be there for each other. Deniz ultimately gets a job as a dance teacher at an art center in Izmir, it was everything she’d ever wanted, and she was grateful to Ada for believing in her.
Deniz and Ada were surprised when an Australian woman named Sally reached out to them. As it turned out, Sally’s grandfather, John Patrick Morgan was in the Gallipoli war and that’s where he met Deniz and Ada’s grandfather, Salih, who saved his life. Sally’s grandfather had left a portion of his heritage to Salih’s family as a token of his thanks for Salih’s kindness. It wasn’t much but she requested that they take it because it would mean a lot to her family. Deniz and Ada accept it and they also realize that kindness too has been passed on to them by their ancestors and it was a legacy they must protect. The series comes to an end with Sevgi’s loved ones gathering at the burial ground to pay their respects to her. A lot has happened over the years, but the one thing that remained constant was their love for their soul sister.
