i-Saraan KWSP 2026: How To Register, Benefits & RM500 Incentive

Most people still think of KWSP (EPF) as something only for salaried workers whose employers deduct contributions every month. But if you're self-employed, run a small business, drive for Grab, deliver food, farm, fish, or freelance, there's a scheme built specifically for you — and the government tops up your savings for free. It's called i-Saraan, and for 2026 it's better than ever.

Here's a plain-English guide to what i-Saraan is, the RM500 yearly incentive, who qualifies, how to register, and the brand-new i-Saraan Plus scheme for e-hailing and p-hailing drivers.

What is i-Saraan KWSP?

i-Saraan is a voluntary contribution facility under KWSP (the Employees Provident Fund). It's designed for Malaysians who don't have a fixed monthly employer contribution — the self-employed, gig economy workers, small traders, farmers, fishermen, and anyone outside the formal workforce.

The idea is simple. You contribute what you can into your own KWSP account, and the government rewards you with a matching incentive on top. Your savings then grow further through KWSP's annual dividends. It's one of the easiest ways for informal-sector workers to build a retirement nest egg without needing a large income or a fixed employer.

The RM500 Incentive: How Much the Government Adds

This is the part that makes i-Saraan worth it. For 2026, the government confirmed in Budget 2026 that i-Saraan continues, with an improved incentive rate.

To earn the full RM500 in a year, you need to contribute at least RM2,500 that year. To put that in perspective: setting aside roughly RM6.85 a day works out to about RM2,500 a year — enough to unlock the maximum government incentive. Add KWSP's annual dividends on top, and small, consistent savings can grow into a meaningful amount over time.

Who Is Eligible for i-Saraan?

To register for i-Saraan, you must meet these conditions:

A few common questions clear this up quickly. Members who are already 55 but still under 60 can register. Those who have reached 60 cannot. Civil servants under a pension scheme who are below 60 are eligible. And one important detail for older savers: for members aged 55 and above, all contributions are channelled into the Akaun Emas (Gold Account).

How To Register for i-Saraan KWSP

Registration is quick and can be done entirely online:

Prefer to do it in person? You can also register at your nearest KWSP branch. Once registered, you can start contributing and check your incentives anytime through the KWSP i-Akaun (Mobile) app, the official website, or a KWSP branch.

One operational change to note: the receipting counters at the KWSP Muar and KWSP Kangar offices closed from 1 January 2026. Voluntary contribution payments are now made through the i-Akaun app or internet banking.

How Much Can You Contribute?

There's no fixed monthly minimum with i-Saraan — you decide how much and when, based on what you can afford. You can contribute up to a maximum of RM100,000 a year. The only figure worth remembering is that RM2,500 in a year unlocks the full RM500 government incentive, so that's a sensible target if your budget allows.

i-Saraan Plus: New 2026 Scheme for e-Hailing & p-Hailing Drivers

New for 2026, the government introduced i-Saraan Plus — an enhanced version of i-Saraan built specifically for e-hailing and p-hailing drivers. If you drive or deliver for a living, this is the one to pay attention to.

It's open to Malaysian citizens aged 16 to 60 who work as drivers or delivery riders through registered e-hailing or p-hailing platforms such as Grab, Foodpanda, InDrive, AirAsia Ride, and Lalamove. Drivers are registered as KWSP members through the platform provider, which helps deduct contributions at a rate the driver sets.

Why i-Saraan Is Worth It

The biggest reason is the free top-up. A 20% matching incentive is a guaranteed return you won't get from an ordinary savings account, and that's before KWSP's annual dividends add even more. On top of that, KWSP savings come with retirement income, the power of compounding over time, and a layer of social protection — including a death benefit of RM2,500 payable to a member's heir or nominee, subject to conditions.

For anyone without a regular monthly KWSP contribution, i-Saraan is one of the simplest ways to start building retirement savings consistently. The earlier you begin, the more time your money has to grow.

Figures reflect Budget 2026 (tabled 10 October 2025) and KWSP's published i-Saraan and i-Saraan Plus terms. Incentive rates, caps, and eligibility are subject to the government's terms and conditions. Confirm current details at kwsp.gov.my before contributing.
