Some Google Pixel owners report issues after installing Android 17 including Wi-Fi disconnects, laggy games

The stable Android 17 update landed on Google Pixel phones earlier this month, but it hasn’t gone off without a hitch, as some users report that the update is causing issues with Wi-Fi and game performance.
It’s probably safe to say that Google has never released a major update for Pixel phones without some reports of issues, both because issues are relatively common, and because the Pixel community is very attentive to issues. Android 17 isn’t a particularly huge update, but it does seem that a couple of issues have popped up in the time since the update was released, in addition to issues we’ve already covered, such as touchscreen problems.
Firstly, it seems Wi-Fi woes are back in place on Google Pixel devices. There was already a fairly widespread issue with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on Pixel earlier this year, but issues have seemingly returned in the stable Android 17 release. It doesn’t take much digging to see dozens of user reportsof Wi-Fi problems where the connection intermittently disconnects or performs poorly. Somereport that their connections drop out “every few minutes,” while others aren’t quite as negatively affected. Either way, though, it’s clear something is up with the Android 17 update in regards to network performance.
Beyond that, there are also reports of game performance problems following the Android 17 update on Google Pixel devices.
These are a bit more interspersed, with issues seemingly affecting some games but not others, and some users but not others. Those affected report issues with games that are laggy and stuttering, seeminglydue to restricted GPU performance. And these aren’t demanding titles being affected, with reports stemming from games such as Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, and other mid-tier titles. Android Authority suggests this might be partially related to the latest Google Play System update, but it’s hard to know for certain. Personally, I went and tested a few games on my Pixel 10 running Android 17, and everything I tried worked out fine. This issue doesn’t seem particularly widespread, but there are too many reports to ignore.
