KUCHING, July 5: The management of a local pet shop has responded to public concern over the welfare of cats at its premises, saying it is taking immediate steps to improve the animals’ care.
In a statement emailed to DayakDaily today, the management apologised for the distress caused and acknowledged the concerns raised over animal welfare.
It said all cats would be moved indoors, while some would be rehomed as part of efforts to provide better care.
The management also said it is committed to strengthening its animal welfare practices and preventing similar incidents from recurring.
Earlier, it was reported that the allegations, shared through a Google Review and Threads posts, described cats showing signs of heat stress, including heavy panting, a crying kitten, and a cage allegedly left without water until visitors intervened.
Other claims alleged the cats were intentionally displayed outdoors to attract customers and referenced the reported death of a Bengal cat, which a worker reportedly attributed to illness.
The posts also revived similar allegations made in 2023, with claims that earlier complaints had not been addressed despite reports to the authorities. — DayakDaily
