Dyson has launched its first handheld personal fan in Malaysia, priced at RM499, placing the brand for the first time within reach of buyers who have never owned one of its products. The HushJet Mini Cool fan went on sale following an official launch event in Kuala Lumpur on 6 July, after appearing on Dyson’s Malaysian website for several weeks beforehand.

The company has spent nearly two decades building a reputation around premium vacuum cleaners, hair styling tools and air purifiers, most priced well above a thousand ringgit. A sub-RM500 product changes who can plausibly buy into that brand for the first time.

A Familiar Motor In An Unfamiliar Size

The fan runs on a brushless DC motor capable of 65,000 RPM, generating airflow of up to 25 metres per second, equivalent to 55 miles per hour. That figure sits within a broader engineering pattern at Dyson, which has reused variations of small, high-speed motors across products including the Supersonic hair dryer.

The HushJet Mini Cool measures 38 millimetres in diameter, a dimension the company has repeated across several devices and describes as central to its miniaturisation approach. Noise output varies by mode, measured at 52 dBA on the lowest of five speed settings and rising to 72.5 dBA in Boost mode, the setting intended for brief bursts of stronger airflow rather than sustained use. A honeycomb mesh nozzle is designed to reduce turbulence, a detail aimed at making the higher-speed settings less abrasive to use in enclosed or quiet spaces such as offices.

Built Around Three Physical Configurations

The fan weighs 212 grams and functions as a handheld unit, a desk fan when placed on its included charging stand, or a hands-free wearable using a neck lanyard supplied in the box.

A 5,000mAh battery charges via USB-C in around three hours and provides up to six hours of use on its lowest setting, a runtime that scales down considerably at higher speeds or in Boost mode. The bladeless design, a feature Dyson also uses in its desk and tower fans, removes the safety concern associated with exposed fast-spinning blades, relevant in a handheld product likely to be used near loose hair or by children.

Undercutting An Existing Market

Before Dyson’s entry, Malaysia’s handheld personal fan segment had been dominated by brands such as Jisulife, whose comparable models typically retail between RM180 and RM260. Dyson’s RM499 price sits well above that range, yet remains low enough to function as an entry point into the brand for buyers who would otherwise need to spend several thousand ringgit on a vacuum or air purifier to own a Dyson product at all.

The fan’s release was accompanied by a companion product, the HushJet Purifier Compact, priced at RM1,699.
