Banting School Stabbing: “Unresolved Grievance” As Likely Motive, Cops Rule Out Bullying

Police believe the suspect in the Banting school stabbing harboured unresolved grievances against several schoolmates.

At a press conference today, police informed that the probe into the stabbing incident is still underway.

Selangor police chief Shazeli Kahar said the teen suspect had pent-up feelings of dissatisfaction towards some of her peers, but rules out bullying as a motive. This conclusion was reached after the police recorded statements from witnesses and the 10 students whose names were in a ‘’hit list’’ that went viral online.

Shazeli added that there are other contributing factors, such as the severe stress experienced by the suspect. The suspect was said to have attempted to jump off the school building last year, but authorities are still cross-checking this with her former counselors.

Further checks revealed that the suspect hasn’t been in school for eight months. She was homeschooled due to health issues, including depression. Police confirmed she holds a persons with disabilities (OKU) card, indicating autism.

Shazeli also shared that the suspect took an e-hailing ride to school the day of the incident. She entered the compound through the front gate, which was open to other vehicles and pedestrians. He stressed that this wasn’t negligence from the school.

The suspect reportedly purchased the knife used in the attack online and carried it into the school in her backpack.

Shazeli urged the public to give investigators room to investigate the case fully.

On 16 July, the 15-year-old suspect walked into a school in Banting with a knife and stabbed a 15-year-old female student.

The victim sustained multiple stab wounds, one of which punctured her lung. She underwent surgery at Hospital Banting and is now on a week-long recovery.

The suspect is remanded until tomorrow to assist in investigations under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
