'The Westies' Episode 2 Recap & Ending Explained: Is Mickey Abducted?
5 天前
Episode 2 of The Westies starts where episode 1 left off, with Vinnie’s bloody dead body lying on the floor and Sweeney having an argument with Jimmy about why he chose to kill Vinnie instead of Mickey. Jimmy essentially says that he is done killing his own people, and he promises to disappear Vinnie’s body into thin air, thereby reducing the chances of a war with the Italians. Breen opposes that, and points his gun at Jimmy and Mickey with the intention of killing the both of them and putting this matter to rest once and for all. But that’s when those who side with Jimmy point their guns at those on Breen and Sweeney’s side, and the boss realizes that there’s some kind of groupism happening within the Irish gang. The youth is clearly not vibing with the old guard, and if he doesn’t do something about it, the Irish will cannibalize each other, thereby giving the Italians a free win. So, Sweeney orders everyone to lower their weapons, congratulates Mickey for having a friend as great as Jimmy, and then greenlights Jimmy’s plan to disappear Vinnie’s body. What happens next? Let’s find out.
Spoiler Alert
Jimmy And Mickey Frame Vinnie For A Jewelry Store HeistBreen, Jimmy, and Mickey start working on Vinnie’s body. The bullet in his head will be melted down. The serial number of the gun that was used to kill Vinnie has to be filed off and then the firearm has to be dropped into the deepest part of the Hudson river. Vinnie’s body has to be chopped up and then burnt. Jimmy adds to Breen’s gameplan by cutting off Vinnie’s hand from his detached arm, delivering it to Sweeney, and telling him that he intends to use it to paint this picture that Vinnie went on a one-man crime spree. Jimmy is gonna lead a team that’s gonna do the crimes, then they are gonna leave Vinnie’s fingerprints all over the crime scenes, then Sweeney is gonna tell Keenan to look into that, and that’s gonna be the Irish’s alibi for not being involved in Vinnie’s execution. Sweeney and Breen aren’t entirely convinced this is going to work, which is why the latter suggests that they simply throw Jimmy and Mickey into the Italians’ den and call it a day. Jimmy reminds them that since Vinnie was a “made man,” the Italians aren’t gonna be satisfied with the Irish giving up two of their minions; they’d want more. So, Sweeney allows Jimmy to go ahead with his plan of taking Vinnie’s hand around the city and planting his finger prints everywhere. That said, if things go sideways, they’ll have to fall back on Breen’s proposal: sacrificing Jimmy and Mickey. Before heading out on the “crime spree” adventure with Vinnie’s hand, Mickey reveals that he hasn’t been taking his medication, and Jimmy goes ballistic on him for that. He tells Mickey to straighten himself up, because he is not gonna bail him out of a sticky situation ever again. Anyway, on that note, Jimmy, Mickey, Sean, and Connor hit a jewelry store; they steal some stuff, plant Vinnie’s fingerprints all over the place, and then bail.
Keenan Is Stuck Between Sweeney And PolkKeenan meets up with Polk, who tells him to focus on all the illegal stuff that’s happening in and around the Javits center. Keenan doesn’t know if he’s up for that, because he is afraid he is gonna get killed if anybody finds out that he’s working for the feds. But Polk advises him to put all his past experience to use and do some good for society. A few moments later, we see Keenan at the bar that the Westies frequent, and he tries to engage Ray, the bartender, in a conversation about the Italians, the Irish, and the Javits Center. But as soon as Ray realizes that Keenan isn’t talking to him as a friend but as a cop, he shuts down. That’s when Danny arrives at the bar and tells Keenan that Sweeney wants to meet with him. What does Sweeney want? He wants Keenan to accuse Vinnie of robbing a jewelry store (the store has been robbed by Sweeney’s men). Instead of simply doing what he’s asked, Keenan starts questioning Sweeney to understand what he’s playing at. Sweeney shuts him down, so Keenan says that he can’t do what Sweeney is asking him to do, because Polk is literally breathing down his neck. Sweeney warns Keenan that if he doesn’t do his duties on behalf of the Westies, the gravy train will stop. On that note, Keenan leaves and informs Polk that Vinnie is responsible for the jewelry theft. The prints confirm that. And based on that, a warrant is put out with Vinnie’s name on it. However, Polk doesn’t buy any of it, which is why, instead of dismissing Keenan, she states that they have to dig deeper into this conspiracy around Vinnie.
Gotti Interrogates ErinGotti is seen going about his day, getting his protection money delivered to him by Antonio, and then wondering where Vinnie is. Later on, Vinnie’s wife, Lina, shows up at Gotti’s HQ, worrying about her husband. She is convinced that Vinnie is dead, and the more Gotti assures her that he’s fine, the angrier she gets. Lina is aware of Vinnie’s affair with Erin, but she doesn’t think that he’s with her. Gotti promises Lina that he’s gonna look into this matter personally and sends her home. Speaking of Erin, she meets up with Mickey and tells him that she saw him holding Vinnie at gunpoint that night and then telling him to drive to his own death. Erin says that she’ll keep her mouth shut for some money, but since Mickey isn’t exactly the richest gangster around, he gives her a bracelet that he had stolen. Erin is free to sell it or wear it. Moreover, Mickey doesn’t want anything in exchange; he just hopes that Erin talks to him occasionally, as friends. Going back to Gotti, he learns that Vinnie has been accused of robbing a jewelry store. Of course, Gotti doesn’t buy it, because why would a made man rob jewelry stores? He instantly theorizes that this is the Irish’s doing, and they are putting the blame on Vinnie. So, he shows up at Sweeney’s office and straight-up addresses the elephant in the room: where’s Vinnie? Sweeney obviously feigns ignorance, and Gotti seemingly senses that; so, he tells Sweeney that if he finds out that the Irish have got anything to do with Vinnie’s disappearance, he’ll make their life a living hell. Sweeney stands his ground, but as soon as Gotti leaves his office, he lights up a cigarette to calm his nerves, because he knows that his men are guilty, and if Gotti finds out, his world will definitely go up in flames. Gotti meets up with Erin and asks her to give him some info on Vinnie. Erin tries to act like she doesn’t know anything, but then Gotti spots the bracelet and forces her to reveal the identity of the person who gave it to her.
Bridget Learns About Brendan’s PlansBrendan shows up at Bridget and Jimmy’s house to check up on how his package-handler is doing. Bridget is lowkey shocked that Brendan has found out where she lives. Brendan reveals that her house address isn’t the only thing about her that he has unearthed. Then he starts rambling about how the thought of reuniting with Bridget is the only thing that kept him from going insane in prison; which means that these two were romantically involved in the past. Bridget doesn’t want to reciprocate such feelings anymore; hence, she says that she is glad that Brendan is out. Brendan then starts talking about Jimmy and his professional background. When he sees that Bridget really loves Jimmy, he starts comparing himself to Jimmy to show her how much better he is than her new boyfriend (which is just the ultimate form of weakness that a man can display). Bridget understandably gets uncomfortable and tells him to leave. Later that day, Bridget comes clean to Jimmy about her arrangement with Brendan, and Jimmy is understandably shocked to see his girlfriend joining hands with the people who were the reason for her persecution in the UK. Jimmy reminds Bridget that she had to be smuggled out of Ireland to avoid getting killed by the British, and now she’s holding onto mysterious packages in the name of Ireland. Bridget assures Jimmy that things won’t get out of hand, but Jimmy leaves pretty unconvinced by her words. Bridget meets Brendan at the docks again to clarify a few things: she doesn’t want to get romantically involved with him again, and she wants to know the real purpose of that rocket launcher. Bridget is shocked to learn that Brendan isn’t shipping that weapon to Ireland; he intends to use it somewhere in New York or maybe elsewhere in the United States of America. It’s unclear if Bridget is gonna continue to support Brendan’s cause or if she’s gonna ask Jimmy to help her get out of this pickle. Jimmy will probably help her, but I don’t know if their relationship is going to last.
Pat Kills A CopAfter the jewelry hit job, Jimmy and Mickey return to Sweeney’s HQ and give him the loot; but Jimmy reveals that he’s not done yet. He wants to take Vinnie’s hand out of the city and to the neighboring states to make their alibi a little more solid. Sweeney thinks that that’s a good idea, and even tells Jimmy what he wants him and his crew to rob: Corktown Pub. He says that the owner, Liam, will actually help Jimmy and his pals with the robbery, because Liam is Sweeney’s buddy; if they actually rob a place that’s not in the city they hail from, the report will be out of their hands, and they might actually get into some trouble, thereby making Vinnie’s hand irrelevant. If they use Sweeney’s plan, the crime and the report will be in the hands of the Irish. With that assurance, Jimmy, Mickey, Connor, and Pat hit the road to get to Boston. They take a break after entering Massachusetts, which is when Pat and Mickey get into a fight, because Mickey chucks Jimmy and Connor a beer can and gives Vinnie’s hand to Pat. Jimmy orders everyone to cool down and resume their journey. Eventually, they reach Liam’s pub, wreck it, and put Vinnie’s fingerprints all over the place. When they start making their journey back home, a highway patrol cop stops him because of how busted up their car is. But while examining that, the cop notices something leaking out of the trunk. Hence, Connor has no choice but to show the source of the leak, which is the ice box that Vinnie’s hand is stored in. As soon as the cop sees that, he goes for his gun, but Pat kills the cop. Since Mickey had nicked Vinnie’s wallet, they use his driver’s license and his fingerprints to place him at the scene of this crime.
Mickey Is AbductedWhen Jimmy informs Sweeney about the hand and the dead cop issue, Sweeney wonders why they didn’t just get rid of the hand in Boston. Jimmy says that he didn’t want to discard it until he was absolutely sure it had fulfilled its purpose. Sweeney orders Mickey to destroy it right then and there because if that hand is discovered, all the crimes that Vinnie has been accused of will fall on the Irish. And he orders Declan to go with Mickey, because he doesn’t trust him that much. He tells Connor and Pat to burn the car they have been driving. In addition to that, he drops a truth bomb on Jimmy by telling him that while he thinks that he’s pulling off a grand illusion, he must remember that the truth has a nasty habit of surfacing. In the ending of episode 2, after Vinnie’s hand has been burnt to a crisp, Declan and Mickey start making their way home, but they are stopped in their tracks by some unknown men. Declan is knocked out while Mickey is abducted. Who are these guys? Well, it seems like they’re Gotti’s men. Earlier, Gotti was interrogating Erin about the bracelet that Mickey had given her. Erin saw Mickey abducting Vinnie. Therefore, it’s possible that Gotti pressured her to reveal everything about Mickey and she ended up revealing what Mickey has done. Why didn’t these men kill Mickey? Because Gotti wants to put Mickey on the proverbial stand and find out what happened to Vinnie, who killed him, and who all are responsible for the cover-up. If he learns that Sweeney, Jimmy, Breen, Connor, Sean, Pat, and the rest of the gang are in on it, he is gonna fulfil his promise and make them pay. Well, do you think it is Gotti who had Mickey abducted or someone else? Let me know in the comments section below.
