'Silo' Season 3 Episode 3 Recap & Ending Explained: Will Camille Kill Juliette?
1 天前
In the flashback section of Silo Season 3 episode 3, Daniel met up with Victor, the doctor looking after Charlotte. He explained that they were medicating Charlotte in such a way that all her memories were suppressed. Once she was ready to start remembering, they’d cherrypick the memories that would help her heal, and delete the memories that’d give her PTSD. While presenting this method as a wholesome approach to repairing Charlotte’s mind, Victor was essentially redacting important aspects of the Iran mission so that the truth about that bombing run never came to light. Daniel didn’t realize that aspect of Charlotte’s medication, but as soon as Helen underscored it (after Helen illegally got in touch with Charlotte at the Heidi Stensen Clinic), his eyes were opened. In the present-day section of the episode, Juliette got in touch with Martha to try and remember who she was; and all she got was her multitool back. After that, she headed to the market (because that’s where the sender of the note had asked her to come if she wanted to learn the truth), gave Jerry the slip, and sat down for a meeting with Kennedy, Sandy, and Danny. They talked about the memory-suppression drugs that Judicial and IT were giving to Juliette, the Silo 17 helmet, and the possibility of Lukas’ survival. That discussion had to be cut short, because Camille and the raiders came looking for her. Sandy, Danny, and Kennedy got away; meanwhile, Juliette lied to Camille that she had been captured by Kennedy because he wanted her to do propaganda for the Outsiders. In addition to that, Juliette stopped taking her meds so that she could remember her past. Speaking of remembering, the Algorithm and Camille were seen having a conversation about the memory protocol, which’d involve wiping the minds of the denizens of the entire silo (via the Vitamin D+ about to be dumped into the water supply). Because if nobody remembered why the previous rebellions happened, there would be no more rebellions in the future. What happened next? Let’s find out.
Spoiler Alert
Helen Is Fired From Her JobIn episode 3’s flashback, we see Daniel attending the commemoration ceremony of Juan Alameda, one of the pilots who went on that bombing run with Charlotte but never made it back. Once James Alameda is done speaking his piece on Juan’s death, Daniel approaches him to talk about the Iran bombing. James confirms all the things about the mission that Helen had alleged, especially the part about the pilots being made to use use analog equipment. The new piece of information that James provides is that since there was no way to encrypt the out-of-date comms system of the planes that were used for the bombing run, anybody could have recorded the chatter between the pilots. Hence, there’s a possibility that an audio recording of Charlotte and the others is out there somewhere. James hasn’t gone looking for it because he wants to move on. Also, given how tense he becomes upon seeing Henry, who is the captain of the Nimitz (the aircraft carriers involved in the bombing run), enter the premises, it’s possible that James doesn’t want to dig into the circumstances under which Juan died because he’s afraid of what Henry will do to him and his family. Henry then shows up at Helen’s workplace and gets her fired. Prior to her firing, Helen and Daniel were talking about searching the dark web for the recording from the jets. Although Helen is out of a job and has nowhere to report on her findings, she has scoured the dark web, found out a man named Steve (who claims to have the recording they want), and even uncovered his address.
Steve Is GoneOnce they get to the seedy basement where Steve lives, he lets them in, takes their phones, and also makes a copy of Daniel’s congressional badge so that he can have leverage over him (apparently having politicians under his thumb is something he loves to do). He confirms that the recording of the conversation between the pilots exists and then shuts down, because that’s all he is willing to divulge at that point. However, as soon as Steve learns that one of the pilots, Charlotte, is Daniel’s sister, he gives up the tape on which he has stored the recording. After listening to it, both Helen and Daniel have a mini mental breakdown, because it’s harrowing to listen to the pilots figuring out that there’s a black nanite-esque goo that’s making them crash and they can’t do anything about it. Obviously, Charlotte and Daniel don’t know that; they are utterly confused about what could have made those pilots and their planes so useless. While heading home, Daniel tells Charlotte that he wants to go to Steve’s again to give that recording another listen and see if they can find any clues that’ll help them figure out what happened to Charlotte and the pilots. If there’s something fishy, he wants the general public to know about what the government and the defence forces are doing to their soldiers. Unfortunately, by the time Daniel and Helen get to Steve’s house, somebody has completely trashed it and, of course, there’s no sign of Steve. Now, we are meant to believe that this is Henry’s doing. However, there’s a possibility that Steve only got a hint that Henry was headed his way, and he has wrecked his own room to make it look like he has been abducted or killed. At the same time, given how dangerous Henry seems, and given how much Steve knows about the government and the defence forces’ secret affairs, it’s entirely possible that Henry learnt about Steve by tracking Daniel or Helen, abducted him, and secured that tape.
Camille Learns That Juliette Isn’t Taking Her MedsPreviously, Juliette and Jerry had struck a deal, where the latter would allow the mayor to move around the silo freely and without being followed by him, to avoid a repeat of what Juliette did to Jerry in order to get away from him in the market. In Season 3 episode 3, Jerry honors that deal and, after spitting out her medication, Juliette takes off to find Lukas. In the meantime, Amy informs Camille that Juliette hasn’t been taking her meds. Camille tells Amy to keep giving Juliette the meds so that she doesn’t suspect that Amy or Camille have caught on. Shirley gets a note from Juliette, asking her to meet her. When Knox asks what that’s about, Shirley lies to him and just says that it’s a note about the repairwork of the stairwell that she is supervising. Knox notices that something is off, but Shirley doesn’t hang around long enough to allow him to question her properly. Speaking of questioning, Juliette shows up at Paul’s house to talk to Kat about how she can find Kennedy and Lukas (Juliette says she is there to talk to Paul, but it’s evident she wants to question Kat). Juliette must’ve spotted Kat sitting outside the room where she met Kennedy, Sandy, and Danny; also, the injury on Kat’s wrist is a dead giveaway that she was involved in the raid where the Outsiders stole a helmet. Kat tries to feign ignorance, but Juliette gets her to speak the truth. Kat claims that Lukas is dead, Kennedy is on the run, and Paul has nothing to do with her work as an Outsider. Kat then recaps everything that happened with Lukas in the previous season and she reiterates that he was probably burnt along with all the people who died during the rebellion. Going back to Camille, she is seen having a tense chat with the Algorithm about the fact that Juliette hasn’t been taking her medication. Camille sees the positive of this; she thinks that if they let Juliette remember, she will take them to Lukas and Kennedy, thereby allowing them to shut down the source of rebellious activity and negate the need to erase everyone’s memories by dumping the “Vitamin D+” into the water supply. The Algorithm doesn’t agree with Camille, and simply orders her to go ahead with the memory protocol. If she doesn’t do that, the Safeguard protocol might be activated. Hence, Camille doesn’t argue any further and goes back to doing her designated job.
Juliette Confronts Robert About LukasPaul and Sheila are seen meeting up with Orla’s parents, who are worried about their daughter, who is still missing. Once Orla’s parents are done speaking their piece, Sheila informs Paul that Orla had a boyfriend named Mike Davidson, who is Glenda’s ex (Glenda’s father, Ed, was beefing with Orla in the first episode). In addition to that, Sheila reveals that, before disappearing, Orla had deviated from her usual upbeat self, possibly because of her work in Supply. Orla was in charge of sending the Vitamin D+ to Filtration; so, it’s possible that she learnt about its true nature, and her beef with the Harwoods over her stealing Glenda’s job and her “man” is a red herring. Guess we’ll know about that later. For now, we follow Juliette meeting Robert as he is dropping off Anthony at his school. Robert gets agitated, because while Juliette might have forgotten about the hostage situation that she put his family in, Anthony remembers. Juliette apologizes for that, but since she has no memory of any of it, she needs Robert’s help to piece together what she was doing back then and why; she wants to know about her dynamic with Lukas. Juliette knows that Robert was the last guy to see Lukas, and she wants to reveal some info regarding his whereabouts. However, Robert claims that he has no clue about the kind of work that Lukas used to do with Bernard, and he doesn’t know where Lukas went during the rebellion (he is telling the truth). That angers Juliette, so she brings an end to the conversation and walks away. Since Robert is afraid that Juliette will do something to his son, he takes him to his office for safekeeping. When Camille finds out about this, she comes to check on them and learns about the fact that Juliette came to Robert asking about Lukas. Robert and Camille go to one of the office rooms to talk about Juliette getting close to Anthony again, the need to make memories with Anthony (because he’s afraid Anthony is gonna forget about his parents, like Juliette has forgotten about Pete), and the memory protocol. Camille says that it’s actually important that Anthony forgets about them, because if the memory of his parents tethers him to the silo, he’s not gonna make it out of there alive when the opportune moment arrives.
Camille Releases Rat-Killing Gas In The MinesAt the stairwell, Shirley spots Juliette making another attempt at going to the Down Deep to investigate the Digger Void and see what Lukas was searching for (Kat relays this info to Sandy and Danny). Shirley tries to stop her in her tracks, but Juliette just rappels down a couple of stories, thereby showing that not taking the memory suppression meds is bringing back her cavalier spirit. There, she meets Knox, who tells her that going to the Digger Void is pointless, because it has been sealed off. Juliette asks Knox about the mines and he takes her to Mark, because he knows the mines better. Diego interrupts Robert and Camille’s heated conversation to inform the latter about Juliette’s latest stunt. Meanwhile, Robert and Anthony share a moment together, where the kid gives back to Robert the PEZ dispenser (the Red Level relic) that Robert had given him. By the way, Juliette and Mark’s conversation doesn’t start off on a good note, because Mark is very unwelcoming of Juliette’s questions. As they are heading back to the stairwell, Juliette notices that she’s being followed. So, she starts working with Knox to lose her mark. In the meantime, Camille goes to her chambers to read up on Mark’s file, and notices that he has several accusations of theft and harboring contraband machine parts against him. She realizes that Mark was in the mines and assumes two things: firstly, Mark has told Juliette that Lukas is in the mines, and secondly, Lukas is digging a tunnel between Silos 18 and 17. Based on these assumptions, Camille rushes to the Algorithm and asks it for directions. The Algorithm says that if Camille’s predictions have any truth to them, then she has to take some extreme steps to render the mines inaccessible to everyone, or else the silo will run the risk of facing the brunt of the Safeguard Protocol. Camille orders Chris to send a rat extermination team to the mines and order an immediate fumigation. Chris warns that filling the mines with rat-killing gas without clearing the workers is extremely dangerous. Camille says that since one of the “rats” might be Lukas, she is willing to risk the lives of the miners to bring Lukas out into the open. The fumigation goes as horribly as expected, as multiple miners are affected very badly by all that rat-killing gas. Since Ed is the Head of Mines, Juliette tells Knox to find him. Juliette dons a gas mask and heads into the mines herself to save anyone stuck in there. Unfortunately, the miner that she saves ends up stealing her gas mask and stranding her in there. As Juliette is passing out, Lukas arrives and drags her out of the mines. Chris and the raiders spot Lukas, thereby prompting him to go on the run. Lukas is almost caught by the raiders, but Sandy and Danny rescue him and take him somewhere safe. As the bodies of the miners are being brought out, Paul spots Orla among them. Orla could have been knocked out by the gas, or it’s possible that she was being held by the Harwoods because of their personal vendetta against her.
Camille Might Kill JulietteIn Silo episode 3’s ending, we see Amy, Chris, and Camille at the recovery room where Juliette is being kept. Her health is pretty fragile, because she breathed in a lot of that rat-killing gas before Lukas rescued her. That said, since Juliette isn’t in control anymore, this is the perfect opportunity for Amy to keep giving her those “vitamins” and complete her personal memory protocol procedure. So, by the time Juliette wakes up, she will not have any memory of what she has done recently or in the past. That said, based on the Algorithm and Camille’s conversation, they might opt for a more permanent solution: killing Juliette. If Camille kills Juliette, and claims that she died in the mines, apparently there won’t be any need to push the Vitamin D+ into the water. Juliette’s return had given hope to the silo’s denizens. Ending her mayoral tenure abruptly would cause that sense of hope to plummet suddenly and that’d kill any chance of any further rebellions. That hopelessness would feel organic, and not like something that’s been pushed upon the denizens by Judicial and IT, and hence the impact would be irreversible. However, the question is whether or not Camille is willing to go that far. When Camille hesitates, the Algorithm jogs her memory about that hostage situation involving Juliette. This brings Camille to the conclusion that Juliette’s inherent need to get to the truth is an existential threat to the silo, which is why she needs to die. I don’t know if Camille actually means it, but the thing is that if she is lying, and she doesn’t actually intend to kill Juliette, the Algorithm will catch it. I don’t know if Camille knows how to fool the Algorithm. If she does, well, maybe Juliette is in the safe zone, and Camille is gonna work with her to disable the Algorithm and that goddam Safeguard Protocol it keeps threatening everyone with. If Camille truly believes that killing Juliette is the only solution, yeah, she needs to be extracted from that recovery room. Who’s gonna do it? Lukas and the Outsiders. What do you think is gonna happen? Is Juliette dying in the next episode or is she getting rescued? Let me know in the comments section below.
