Police seize more than 7,400 yaba pills in two Kelantan drug busts

POLICE in Kota Bharu have arrested three men and seized more than 7,400 suspected yaba pills in two separate drug operations in Kelantan.

In Tumpat, a 49-year-old man was detained with various types of drugs, including 1,395 yaba pills, 2 grammes of methamphetamine and 15 epam pills during an operation at Kampung Jal Kechik on Monday night.

The operation was conducted by the Ninth Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) at about 11.30pm under Ops Taring Wawasan.

Southeast Brigade GOF Commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the suspect was spotted riding a motorcycle in a suspicious manner during a patrol.

"Checks found 1,395 yaba pills, 2 grammes of syabu and 15 epam pills on the suspect's vehicle and body. A urine screening test also found the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine," he said in a statement.

Ahmad Radzi said the suspect claimed during questioning that the drugs were supplied by an individual known as "Kemal" from Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat.

"The suspect also claimed that the drugs were intended for distribution to smaller-scale dealers around Tumpat district," he said.

The total seizure, including the motorcycle, was valued at more than RM24,000. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, in Gua Musang, police arrested two Myanmar nationals and seized 6,000 yaba pills after the pair attempted to evade a roadblock at Kilometer 9 of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis.

The incident occurred at about 11am yesterday, with police also seizing a Proton Preve, five mobile phones and car keys, with the total seizure estimated at RM60,000.

Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said preliminary investigations found the suspects, aged 32 and 36, admitted to possessing the drugs and were travelling from Kota Bharu to Kuala Lumpur.

He said the vehicle made a sudden U-turn when approaching the inspection point, prompting police to give chase.

"The suspects' car later skidded and crashed into a lorry near Kampung Kuala Lah, close to the Simpang Tiga Jerek-Meranto junction. Through swift action, police managed to apprehend both suspects.

"Further inspection found a sling bag containing plastic packets filled with 6,000 pills suspected to be yaba," he said.

Sik said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine following initial urine screenings.

He added that one of the suspects also had a previous criminal record under Section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"Further investigations are ongoing to identify the distribution network and other individuals involved," he said. - July 22, 2026
