Chainsmoker Cat Episode 3 Recap: Did Kaoruko Find The Right Joke To Make Others Laugh?
3 天前
Total bonkers misadventures of Yani and her friends continue, highlighting the dreadfulness of crippling addiction in its true ugly, miserable state while deriving absurd humour out of it. Previously in “Chainsmoker Cat,” viewers were introduced to Yani’s friends/ neighbors, Yaku, a drug addict, and Hame, a gamer Catgirl who is prone to losing her temper. Without a specific central narrative strain, the series meanders through the hopeless, pitiable daily drudgeries of Yani and her friends, and with each passing episode, the depressive routine becomes unbearable.
Spoilers Ahead
Otani’s MiseryThe episode opens with Yani taking a puff in the middle of the day at the children park, much to the dismay of the parents and grown ups who feel disgusted by her behaviour. Her landlord, Otani, is present at the park as well. A group of boys are playing soccer, when the ball reaches Yani, and one of the boys, who gives her the most hilarious nickname ‘Chimney’ – which sticks with her in the entire episode, asks her to pass the ball. Yani excitedly wants to play with them, and no one is able to match up with her dribbling. Not because of her skill, but due to the fact that they are too captivated by her, and this includes Otani as well – who gets the ball kicked right in his face. However, within merely a couple of minutes, Yani gets gassed out, relentless smoking has ruined her lungs which is why she is out of breath already. In the meantime, two beat cops arrive at the scene to find a miscreant who has been chasing children around the area. Yani starts smoking right in front of them, getting scolded by the cops as a result.
Back at her apartment, Yani enjoys throwing things and spitting on an unsuspecting Otani’s head, and eventually ends up dropping a freaking microwave. While Otani tries talking some sense into Yani, but with the attention span of a goldfish, she continues to act annoyed and nonchalant. To make fun of Otani, Yani decides to attach Beastfolk exclusive nicotine patch on his head without him noticing, only to learn from the warnings on the pack that it is fatal for humans. As the chemicals start taking hold on Otani’s mind, he feels guilty for scolding Yani, and she doesn’t get the chance to remove the patches. Out of option, Yani farts on Otani’s face to knock him out, and drags him outside her apartment after removing the patches. Yeah, it’s as disgusting as anyone could have imagined.
Yani is unable to pay rent and offers to help Otani any way she can, which prompts him to ask her to weed out the garden. It’s also a productive way to keep herself engaged and fight addiction, but Yani looks for any excuse available to take a puff. Enraged, Otani confiscates her cigarettes, stating it won’t be returned until she finishes her work. In Otani’s absence, Yani starts chewing on horsetail weeds, which have traces of nicotine and other neurological intoxicants, and by the time he returns, a high Yani has eaten all his cabbages in the garden. Let alone a job, Yani can’t be trusted with the most basic works in her miserable state of mind. Otani ventshis frustration at his room by getting it on with his blow up sex doll. While removing an age-old poster from her room, Yani notices enchanted seals attached in one of the walls of her apartment, and gets freaked out upon hearing strange sounds and seeing the walls move. It’s probably just a figment of imagination of her deluded state of mind, but she goes to complain about it to Otani. The landlord hurriedly shoos her away, he neither has any knowledge about such haunted incidents and was already busy with his blow up doll. Not only Yani, every single resident in this apartment is hopelessly miserable.
Kaoruko and Haruko’s LifeYani is visited by one of her friends, Kaoruko, a Catgirl from the Kansai region, a failing comedian who tries her best to make others laugh. Yani remains completely inattentive and clueless while Kaoruko continues to make several attempts to make her laugh, which includes wearing a leash with nose hooks attached, and even making Twin Peaks jokes. Later, Yani goes to one of their common friends, Aruko’s place. A hopeless alcoholic, Aruko doesn’t like Yani’s company and remains unbothered by her incessant smoking, mostly because she is always in a drowsy state due to her drinking problems. Munching on smoked cheese and drinking sugar syrup mixed whiskey, the duo find themselves in a dreamy high state while sleeping with the music on. Late at night, Kaoruko arrives at the apartment after yet another failed attempt at stand up comedy, and finds Aruko has vomited on a sleeping Yani, who is oblivious to everything. Aruko is clearly in pain, and after putting her in a recovery position, Kaoruko gets a good chuckle.
Did Kaoruko Find the Right Joke to Make Others Laugh?Yani, Kaoruko and Yakuko go on a broadcasting drill by driving around their hometown Nyagamihara to update the residents on various aspects. Yani lets out a fart, causing much trouble for her friends, but Kaoruko decides to use this as a way to make everyone laugh. Convincing Yani to fart by promising her a pack of cigs, Kaoruko broadcasts farting noises all around the neighbourhood. I don’t know about laughs but people appear extremely weirded out and disgusted by it, and Otani, who was just about to eat his lunch, suddenly loses all his appetite.
Yani accidentally drops a cigarette through a hole in the wall, and gets stuck halfway while trying to get it. Kaoruko tries helping her by pushing her with all her might, but their clownish actions make it appear that they are simulating sex in a public area. Local perverts gather around to look at the spectacle, much to the dismay and annoyance of Kaoruko, who has unintentionally become an embarrassing laughing stock.
