Abode launches new Apple Home-compatible sensors for garages, gates, more

DIY smart home security company Abode expanded its Apple Home-compatible lineup today with two new sensors designed to monitor garage doors, gates, sheds, and other entry points. Here are the details.

Abode announces two Apple Home-compatible sensors

Abode today announced its new Garage Tilt Sensor and Outdoor Contact Sensor, designed to monitor entry points that the company says are often beyond the reach of traditional indoor sensors.

Both products are compatible with Apple Home, as well as with Alexa and Google Assistant. They can leverage Abode’s CUE smart home automation engine to offer personalized behaviors, such as “driveway lights that switch on the moment an entry gate opens after dark, or a garage door that closes itself if it’s been left open for more than 10 minutes,” according to the company.

Here’s Abode on its new wireless Garage Tilt Sensor, which the company says offers up to 10 years of battery life:

As for Abode’s new IP66-rated Outdoor Contact Sensor, the company says:

Abode says that under “optimal conditions,” connectivity with both sensors can extend up to 500 feet, adding that its easy-to-follow setup instructions guide lets users test the range before mounting.

Here’s Chris Carney, CEO and Founder of Abode, on today’s announcements:

Abode’s new Garage Tilt Sensor has a suggested retail price of $34.99, while the Outdoor Contact Sensor has a suggested retail price of $49.99.
