‘When thieves of millions are freed, appointed to high positions’ – Tun M

SHAH ALAM – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has described the various developments taking place around the world, including in Malaysia, as “strange”, saying many of them do not benefit humanity.

In a Facebook post, Dr Mahathir said the world was currently in turmoil, making it difficult to comment on each of the numerous events unfolding.

He also criticised what he described as strange developments within Malaysia, particularly in relation to court cases and decisions.

“In the country, it is not much different either, as there are many court cases. Strange decisions are made when people who commit minor offences are punished, while those who steal millions are freed and appointed to high positions.

"Strange leaders lead many countries. They also make strange decisions. That is how things are. Events happen non-stop, but it seems that no one cares," he said.

Dr Mahathir said the world was also witnessing wars that should never have taken place but had resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, widespread destruction and huge losses.

He cited the arrest by another country of a democratically elected leader, as well as an attack on a country that resulted in its leader being killed and a war breaking out.

“Likewise, a country is suddenly attacked and its leader is killed, triggering a war.

“Then the attacking country launches bomb and rocket attacks, while the country under attack retaliates by attacking bases belonging to the aggressor in several countries,” he said.

Turning to the conflict in Gaza, Dr Mahathir criticised Israel's occupation of parts of another country's territory and its allegations that the territory was protecting terrorists.

He said the war and genocide in Gaza were continuing, with bomb and rocket attacks reported even during a ceasefire.

"To date, about 73,000 people in Gaza have been killed, while the entire Gaza City has been destroyed and reduced to rubble. However, the people of Gaza are still trying to live their lives as normally as possible.

"Besides that, there is the war between Ukraine and Russia. It is a senseless war because Ukraine is unable to defeat Russia, yet thousands of people have been killed and entire cities destroyed," he said.
