'Furious' Episode 7 Recap & Ending Explained: Who Killed Isabel Luna?

The previous episode of Furious left us with a lot of questions to ponder. Will Marshall survive? Will he blame Alice for the incident? Will Alice end up in trouble? And, most importantly, what is on the flash drive? In episode 7, we discover that Alice and Marshall have been admitted to a hospital. The drug overdose had taken a toll on Alice, but the treatment has helped her recover; Marshall has also survived, and his mother quite expectedly blames Alice for her son’s condition. Thanks to the CCTV footage where Marshall can be seen intimidating Alice, he hasn’t been able to lie about what had actually happened. When Alice regains consciousness, she immediately wants an update on Catherine. She is disappointed in herself; she was so close to bringing her in, yet because of Ed and Marshall, nothing really went as planned. Nora feels the same way, she wonders why Alice prioritized saving Marshall’s life instead of letting him go and just getting hold of Catherine. Well, Alice too blames Nora, since her drinking problem is the reason why Ed took over the case. Neither Alice nor Nora can change who they are, and they can’t help but laugh at their miserable situation.

Why was Alice’s video on the flash drive?

Danny spends the night with Alice after she is released from the hospital. He can’t stop thinking about Alice’s video, but he also knows that it’s not the appropriate time to discuss it. He simply leaves the flash drive on her bedside table and dozes off. The next morning, when he tries to discuss the matter with Alice, she deflects, well not intentionally. She genuinely feels grateful for having someone as reliable as Danny in her life, and she finally gathers the courage to express how deeply she loves him. She never said it before, because she feared that she was too broken to be with him, but she has come to realize that she doesn’t want to hide her feelings anymore. Although Danny loves Alice, in that moment, he struggles to come up with the right response. He can’t shrug off the image of Alice from the video, and feels the urgency to discuss it immediately with her. Alice feels terrible, and understandably so, the day she finally addresses her feelings, Danny isn’t in the right headspace for it. He finally decides to tell her about the flash drive full of child pornography videos, and when Alice asks him why he hasn’t submitted it yet, since possession charges are easier to prove than a homicide case from 2012, he explains that there’s a video of her on there as well. Alice is left completely dumbfounded, and Danny throws one question after another in her direction. Well, he has been wanting to ask them for quite some time, and when he finally gets the chance, he does so without considering how his reaction might affect Alice. When he realizes he might have crossed a line with all the questions, he tells her that he will make sure that no one sees the video, because he loves her. 

The video was taken when Alice was a teenager, we already know that she was only 14 when she became pregnant and got kicked out of her house by her father. She went through an abortion and lived briefly at a foster home before ending up on the streets and eventually being rescued by Marshall’s mother. Although Jay Easton is not in the video with Alice, it’s evident that whoever had secretly recorded her had sold the video, and that’s how Jay Easton and Hal Hatford had come to get hold of it. So, who recorded Alice? And how? She was a victim of sexual abuse and perhaps during the time she was on the streets she took up sex work to feed herself, and that’s when one of her clients recorded a video. Or perhaps it was the guy she was in love with and who got her pregnant who had taken the video. We don’t know yet why Alice left the foster home and ended up on the streets. Was she briefly adopted by a family, and was the experience terrifying enough to make her run away, again? Alice doesn’t really answer any of Danny’s questions; she isn’t comfortable talking about her traumatic past in detail, but she asks him to submit the flash drive, because she doesn’t expect Danny to protect her or bend the rules for her. Danny finally expresses his feelings for her, and tells her that he will make sure that no one watches the video. He also admits that as much as he loves her and wants to hold her close, he can’t do it because the image from the video keeps flashing before his eyes. Alice feels embarrassed and devastated, and she simply asks Danny to leave. 

Maybe the way Danny feels right now is temporary, perhaps he feels so sorry for the young girl in the video that he can’t even bring himself to get intimate with her, even though she is now a consenting adult. While such reactions are personal, maybe Danny should’ve realized that after everything she has been through, Alice needs a shoulder to cry on. Yes, his feelings are important, but here’s a woman who has just found out that someone had videotaped her when she was a teenager, and the video is still out there and Jay Easton and Hal Halter had access to it, she doesn’t need the person she loves to tell her how the image from the video was disturbing to him; she instead needed him to just be there for her, no questions asked. Well, not everyone’s perfect and not everyone reacts the same way, so although not ideal, Danny chose to be honest about his feelings. 

How did Alice plan to arrest Jay Easton?

Using the flash drive isn’t really an option, or at least, for now, Alice isn’t considering it as an option. She figures that the only way she can search Jay Easton’s house is if Catherine ends up attacking him at his manor. So, to carry out this very risky plan, she figures she has to track down Elena. Since she’s the only person Catherine might still be in contact with, Alice asks Nora to tag along with her to the motel where Big Man usually operates from. Night turns to dawn, and finally Big Man shows up at the motel with young girls in a black car. Nora and Alice immediately charge at them, and Alice goes after Elena, while Nora grabs Big Man’s leg when he attempts to escape and handcuffs him immediately. Alice breaks into the room Elena attempts to hide in, puts her in handcuffs, and tells her that Catherine had been lying to her about Isabel. Elena was told that Isabel was her sister, but Alice informed her with certainty that Isabel was her mother, and she gave birth to her a few days before she died. The one thing Alice has learned from Nora is the importance of using people to her advantage. She knows that she has been too soft, and it was time that she did whatever was necessary to get her desired result. So, she framed Catherine in a negative light, telling Elena that Isabel left her in Catherine’s care, but she failed to look after her and gave her away. So, instead of just trusting that Catherine is her savior, she must do whatever is necessary to protect herself. Alice instructs Elena to talk to Catherine using the burner phone she’d given her. As soon as Alice dials Catherine’s number, she hears a phone ring from the bathroom, and it becomes clear that Catherine has been hiding there all along. She had no place to go, she’d run out of options, and this was probably the only spot she could think of hiding in. 

Nora grabs hold of Elena when she attempts to run away, meanwhile, Alice holds Catherine at gunpoint, and Catherine asks her if she’d found Alden’s flash drive. Alice tells her that the laptop had been scrubbed, and there was no flash drive. She adds that since there’s no evidence, there can’t be any deal, which means she will end up in prison while Jay Easton will get to sleep peacefully in the comforts of his home. Alice suggests an alternative to Catherine; she tells her that if she escapes from the room, takes the black car parked in the motel, and drives off to Jay Easton’s house to seek revenge on him, then she’ll follow her and have the perfect reason to break into the predator’s house and search the place. Alice knows Catherine is desperate, she is ready to risk it all to punish her friend’s murderer, even if it means putting her life at risk. I can’t help but wonder if something happens to Catherine, will Alice regret this decision? Will she hate herself even more for intentionally encouraging Catherine to enter the lion’s den, knowing full well that things could go out of her control? Will she regret not using the flash drive? The moral question, of course, is whether Alice’s decision to not use the flash drive is selfish or self-preservation. I don’t think there’s any easy straight answer to that. 

At the very end of Furious episode 7, Catherine arrives at Jay Easton’s house; she is overcome by her emotions, she’s finally about to do what she’d been planning to for years, she is terrified, yet she knows this is the only way. She has run out of drugs, so her only weapon is also gone, can Catherine survive this? Will she murder Jay Easton with her bare hands, or will she freeze the moment she enters the manor? Most importantly, will she survive, or will the predator and his trusted daughter kill her?

Why did Emma kill Isabel?

While Alice decides to use Elena, and eventually Catherine, to arrive at her desired outcome, Danny decides to dig into Isabel Luna’s murder mystery. He figures if he can establish a connection between Isabel and Jay Easton, then they’ll have enough reason to arrest him. So, he heads to the forensic lab and requests to test Isabel’s fingernail scrapings against Caleb Easton’s (Jay’s son whom Catherine had murdered) sample. Thankfully, Kevin, the scientist working at the lab, happens to like Danny, so he does the testing before asking Marty, Danny’s boss, about it. Kevin informs Danny that according to the test results, the DNA under Isabel’s nails belongs to Caleb Easton’s sibling, which means that Emma Easton is the one who’d murdered Isabel. The question is, why did Jay Easton have his daughter murder Isabel? Given his influence, he could’ve had a professional do it, so why get his daughter involved? Was it to check how far Emma was willing to go to protect her family? Or was it simply for entertainment? Did Isabel demand support for childcare? Was that the reason why she was killed? Or maybe she hadn’t fully recovered after childbirth and after Jay Easton forced himself on her; she was in a terrible condition and Emma put an end to her misery. There are multiple possibilities, and we’ll hopefully find a definite answer in the final episode. 

Will Emma help her father?

Emma is loyal to her father, so loyal that she brings young girls to the manor for his entertainment. She warns him that he must be careful now that there are people constantly keeping a watch on him, and she fears that even his contacts might not be able to help him. But Jay Easton is confident that nobody can touch him. Well, he partly believes so, and he’s mostly too desperate to care. There’s a secret room in the predator’s office behind the floral painting on the wooden wall. A young girl, who looks absolutely terrified, is seen waiting inside. Emma leaves her father there, and resorts to gardening to cope with this strange arrangement. There’s something very off about this father-daughter dynamic, and it’s not just money that makes Emma so obedient. Perhaps her father has always used the murder of Isabel Luna to blackmail Emma; that’s how he has bought her loyalty, and she has been too terrified to ever question him. There’s also a possibility that Emma is one of her father’s victims, although this is just an assumption based on a few clues. 

Emma loses her cool towards the end of episode 7, when her father refuses to let go of his private collection of child pornography, even though they’d received a tip from Ed stating that Catherine and the cops are heading to their house, and there’s a very high possibility that their place will be searched. Seeing her father’s expression, Emma figures that he hasn’t given her all the drives with the videos. She thought she had destroyed everything the previous week, but clearly her father had been holding onto a “few” that he apparently can’t live without. As disgusting as it is, the passcode to the safe is Emma’s birthday (which hints at the possibility that Emma is a victim of abuse as well). When Emma raises her voice after seeing the many hard drives in the safe, Jay stands up from his wheelchair and asks Emma to apologize. He wants to believe that he still has power over her, refusing to accept that she’s the one who holds the reins. She pushes her father to the ground when he insinuates that nothing will happen to her, she’ll simply live happily with his money. That’s not the definition of a happy life for Emma; her father has destroyed her entire life, and she has to live with guilt and rotten memories every single day of her existence. She decides to destroy the drives before the cops arrive; even if her father has the privilege of dying in a couple of years, she’ll have to live on, and for that, she has to ensure that the cops don’t get their hands on the drives. Emma will try to protect her father, because if the truth about him comes out, then she too will face the consequences. She has helped him all her life, and she’d (probably) committed a murder for him, so there’s no escape for her; her life is deeply intertwined with her father, and that’s possibly the only reason she’ll help him. I think she’d rather die than face the consequences of her action. She could’ve surrendered herself a long time ago if she were that honest, but she clearly isn’t. She knows her father tortured underage girls, yet she chooses to stay quiet even today. Will Emma, Jay, and Catherine end up dead in the next episode? Will Catherine finally get to find out who actually killed her best friend and what happened that night? Will she get her revenge or will she die trying? The finale already looks quite promising!
