[DEEP DIVE] Semenyih Bypass Battle

A proposed 4.3km bypass in Semenyih is moving ahead, raising questions over the acquisition of land belonging to residents of Kampung Sungai Pening.

The bypass is intended to connect the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK) to Jalan Sungai Lalang and ease traffic congestion in the Semenyih area. 

However, the proposed alignment would cut through the village and affect 35 land lots covering about 47.7 acres of privately owned land.

For the affected landowners, the controversy is not about the proposed Muslim cemetery in Hulu Semenyih. 

Their concerns centre on the bypass - why their land is needed, how the alignment was chosen and whether other options were properly considered before the project progressed.
