KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15: PETRONAS Twin Towers hosted the World Federation of Great Towers (WFGT) Conference 2026, underscoring the landmark’s status as one of the world’s most recognised architectural icons and an important contributor to Malaysia’s tourism landscape.
According to a media release, the gathering reinforces Malaysia’s growing role as a destination of choice for international tourism events, knowledge exchange and global collaboration.
Hosted by the PETRONAS Twin Towers Sky Xperience, the conference brings together more than 70 delegates comprising operators of some of the world’s most prominent towers and landmark attractions, tourism leaders, and industry experts from over 16 countries.
Held under the theme ‘In Pursuit of Excellence’, WFGT 2026 reflects the global attractions industry’s commitment to continuously raising standards, embracing innovation, and delivering greater value to visitors in an increasingly dynamic tourism landscape.
Beyond serving as a platform for professional exchange, the conference seeks to advance conversations on how iconic landmarks can contribute to destination competitiveness, strengthen city branding and create lasting economic impact.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister at Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Lo Su Fui highlighted the conference’s role in supporting Malaysia’s tourism ambitions and strengthening international collaboration.
“As we continue our efforts towards Visit Malaysia 2026-2027, landmarks such as the PETRONAS Twin Towers play an increasingly important role in reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a preferred global destination. They are not merely attractions; they are ambassadors of our nation, showcasing our culture, hospitality, innovation, and commitment to excellence.
“The hosting of WFGT 2026 at the PETRONAS Twin Towers underscores the landmark’s status as one of the world’s most recognised architectural icons and an important contributor to Malaysia’s tourism landscape,” he said.
Meanwhile, KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd group chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Sr Mohd Salem Kailany said that the conference further elevates the international profile of both the PETRONAS Twin Towers and the KLCC Precinct.
“While the PETRONAS Twin Towers may be what brings them here, we hope it is the people, experiences, and spirit of this city that leave a lasting impression. To us, the true measure of a great tower lies not only in how it shapes the skyline, but how it inspires those who visit,” he said.
Jean-Yves Ghazi, executive director of the World Federation of Great Towers, said Kuala Lumpur was a natural choice to host this year’s conference, and that the PETRONAS Twin Towers stand among the world’s most recognisable landmarks and embody the innovation, ambition, and excellence that define the federation.
Additionally, Petrosains Sdn Bhd CEO Ezarisma Azni Mohamad said that as the operator of the PETRONAS Twin Towers Sky Xperience, Petrosains plays a pivotal role in curating memorable experiences at one of Malaysia’s most iconic landmarks.
“Coming shortly after the PETRONAS Twin Towers marked its 27th anniversary on August 31, hosting the World Federation of Great Towers Conference represents a significant milestone for us.
“Beyond welcoming delegates from around the world, the conference provides Malaysia with an opportunity to contribute to global conversations on the future of tourism and visitor experiences. It allows us to demonstrate how innovation, hospitality and meaningful storytelling can create destinations that continue to inspire and remain relevant for future generations.
“We are honoured to showcase the very best of our destination while strengthening international partnerships that will help shape more engaging, memorable and future-ready visitor experiences,” he said. — DayakDaily
