'Goody Goody' Movie Ending Explained & Summary: What Happens In The End-Credit Scene?

Nothing goes right in Raymond Creamer’s 2026 film, Goody Goody, currently streaming on Shudder. Well, when it’s a horror flick, you already know things are about to go down, but it gets a tad bit scarier when there’s a pregnant woman at the center of it! Goody is pregnant, and she wants to deliver her baby at home, in the woods, surrounded by the people she loves. The midwife, Sarah, warns Goody of the challenges she might face delivering a child at home, far away from any hospital. But Goody is determined; she considers finding another midwife she can trust, and if she fails to find someone then she figures she will birth her baby on her own. So, what did Sarah decide?

What happened to Jayson?

From the very beginning, Jayson has been supportive of his wife’s decision. When Sarah suggested they reconsider their decision of giving birth at home, Jayson nudged Goody to at least think about it. But she was resolute about her decision, and the risks Sarah mentioned didn’t scare her. Sarah told them how there were many mothers who were hesitant at first, but after they gave birth at her place, which was very close to the hospital, they were grateful that they didn’t take any chances. But none of what she said convinced Goody to budge. That night, after the meeting, when Sarah was ready to go to bed, she heard a noise from her kitchen. She noticed that the kettle on the stove was whistling. She wondered if someone had broken into her apartment, but the door was locked. She soon had a vision; she saw Goody and Jayson trying to deliver the baby on their own, and the process was grueling for them. 

That’s when Sarah decides to take the job; she figures the couple has no idea of the risks involved in giving birth on their own without the presence of an expert, and she didn’t want anything to happen to the baby. She feels responsible especially after the vision, and even though she knows that giving birth in a cottage in the middle of the woods away from the city hospitals is a bad call, especially in winter, when there’s heavy snowfall and driving might not even be an option, she decides to be there for them. At first, the contraction gaps are normal, and Sarah is confident that she’ll manage to deliver the baby safely, but she starts to feel restless when the gaps between the contractions start to increase. She also notices that while Goody was perfectly dilated to give birth a few minutes ago, suddenly, the dilation decreases, and this unexpected change is something Sarah hasn’t faced before. She tells Jayson about it, and suggests that he make a decision instead of waiting for the worst to happen. But Jayson isn’t ready to give up on Goody’s vision on how they would welcome their child. He asks Sarah to do her job right and not be the bearer of bad news. Jayson clearly had no idea about how bad the situation could really get. He assumes that Sarah is simply tired of waiting and wants to take a shortcut, but he fails to realize that her fear is rooted in strong intuition that shouldn’t be neglected. 

The situation, as expected, doesn’t get any better; soon, the electricity goes off, and while they try to make do with candles, Goody experiences a strange pain during her contraction, and evidently nothing is as it’s supposed to be. The birthing is taking way longer than it should, the gaps between each contraction have increased, the dilation has decreased, and there’s no electricity as well. It really can’t get any worse than this, which is why Sarah begs Jayson to consider admitting his wife to a hospital. Jayson finally listens to Sarah and steps out of the cottage to get the car ready, while Sarah and his sister, Candace, get Goody ready. Sarah decides to go out and check on Jayson, and to her surprise, he’s nowhere to be found. She walks up to the car and realizes that Jayson had the car keys and he has just disappeared. She notices his footprints on the snow and quite absurdly, they disappear out of the blue. It’s almost as if he was walking and someone lifted him from above and took him away, leaving behind no signs. Sarah desperately searches for Jayson, but she feels a strange dark energy around her in the woods, and she decides to head back to the cottage. So, what happened to Jayson? Well, we don’t get to see him again, so there’s no obvious explanation. It looks like the dark energy that Sarah felt didn’t want them to leave the cottage, and they took away Jayson since he had the car keys and he would go to any length to protect his child. Removing Jayson was the easiest way to ensure that the child is birthed in the cottage, but why was that so essential? 

Is the baby a demon?

The first half of Goody Goody is quite compelling. The constant “what will happen next” will keep you on the edge of your seat, but as the film gradually heads towards the climax, it gets too predictable. That is to say that the baby is a demon/monster! Well, it’s definitely anything but human. We don’t get a close up, but considering there’s a long tendril-like body part and deafening screech, it can be assumed that it’s probably a demon/monster baby or an alien offspring. It’s quite evident that there’s a dark presence in the house that Goody can see at times, but considering the immense pain she was in, it can be assumed that a lot of what she sees is a hallucination. 

She mistakes the dark presence for Jayson, although she never gets a clear view of him. Since the voice had asked her to give birth to his son, she assumes that it must be Jayson. But by then, Sarah has already figured that there’s an ominous presence in the house, and the baby Goody is carrying isn’t really hers. She is merely a vessel to deliver this evil being. But why was Goody chosen for this job? At the very beginning of the film, Jayson tells Sarah that, lately, deer have been frequenting the area around their house, and they’d gotten pretty bold. Did demonic souls live in the woods that kept an eye on this human couple? And the seed was perhaps planted when Goody was fast asleep. Since Goody believes in living the wilderness hippie lifestyle, does that mean she ever participated in experimental ritual practices? Did she somehow summon this dark entity? And was this demon presence the reason why Goody was so resolute about giving birth in the cottage? Maybe a voice had always told her to do it at home, away from anyone who would be a threat to the child. The ominous entity desperately wanted Goody to give birth to his son, but since she was a human, it was immensely difficult for her to push the baby out. She starts to bleed from her belly, and Sarah has no choice but to operate on her. The phone is dead, the lights are out, Jayson is gone, and there’s a dark force that wants them dead but has only kept them alive to help Goody deliver the child, so even though Sarah is terrified of cutting open Goody’s belly, she has to do it.

What happened to Sarah?

Soon after Sarah cuts open the belly, she pulls out an odd-looking mass of flesh with several tendrils hanging from it. After taking it out, the entity wraps its tendrils around Sarah’s neck, almost choking her to death. Since Sarah’s job is done, the demonic entity wants her dead. Desperate, Sarah ends up tearing the tendril with her mouth, and a black liquid oozes out of it, further hinting at the demonic entity idea. Sarah grabs hold of the strange creature and holds it up; we don’t know if she destroys it or just surrenders it to the demonic entity so that it lets them go. The entire ordeal happens off-screen, so it’s hard to describe what exactly took place. After giving away the baby, when Sarah crashes onto the floor, she begs forgiveness from Goody, and before she can even complete her sentence, the dark entity pulls her from above and she just disappears, like Jayson. Candace, who is the only one apart from Goody to still be alive, is also knocked out. In her dream, she and Goody are mysterious beings; Goody looks somewhat like Maleficent and wears all black, while she is dressed in blue and has a hollow oval empty space instead of her belly. Perhaps after witnessing the grueling childbirth, when Candace imagines herself, she does so without her belly. She wants to believe they are more powerful than they really are, and have the agency over their bodies that has been stripped from them. That scene also made me wonder if Candace and Goody were part of a cult, whether they knew about this possibility, but what follows after hints at the fact that maybe it’s just Candace’s imagination, because birthing a devil/demonic entity completely destroyed them, and it didn’t look like they were in any way prepared for this mess. The entire situation can be alternatively thought of as an agonizing childbirth episode, where the baby causes the mother immense pain to the point that it is almost viewed as a monster, a devil. 

What does the final scene suggest?

In Goody Goody’s ending, Candace regains consciousness, and she notices that the door is open. She walks out of the house and follows Goody, who is seen going to the woods. Candace grabs hold of her when she collapses, and Goody tells her that she can feel Jayson. Candace realizes that Goody doesn’t have much time left; she is bleeding to death and she can’t do anything about it. Perhaps she went out of the cottage to find Jayson, or at least to feel his presence one last time. She begs Candace to describe how her baby was born again. She had previously painted this very warm and happy picture when Goody felt hopeless and it helped her relax and she wanted to experience the same contentment that she did before. When she closes her eyes, Candace asks her to come and tell her if she’s okay, and she looks Candace in the eye and tells her that she feels beautiful. Goody accepts death, she rather feels at peace when she realizes that she doesn’t have much time left. Things obviously didn’t go the way she wished; in just a few hours her life changed drastically, and she lost her purpose completely. She took solace in her hallucinations, and she held onto the belief that everything was alright till the very end. 

What happens in the end-credit scene?

In the end-credit scene, we get to see a short glimpse of Goody and Jayson, they look really happy together, somewhere far away. Perhaps this is an old clip of them together, or maybe this is them in their afterlife. Death united them once again, which is why when Goody was so close to death she thought she could feel Jayson again. There’s some glimmer of hope in knowing that the two are happy and safe somewhere, or that their love lives on regardless of how things came to an end.
