Marking the 30th anniversary of the iconic Civic Type R nameplate globally, Honda has officially pulled the wraps off the refreshed 2027 Honda Civic Type R.
Six generations after its initial Japanese debut in 1997, the benchmark front-wheel-drive hot hatchback arrives with subtle aerodynamic revisions, optimized driving dynamics, and thoughtful daily creature comforts designed to broaden its appeal without compromising its track-honed DNA.
Remaining the only vehicle in its performance class offered exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox, the updated hot hatch will begin arriving at North American dealerships this month with a starting Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) in the United States of $48,695, which converts to just under RM200,000.
Aero Revisions and Sharper Track DynamicsWhile the overall wide-body silhouette remains intact, Honda engineers have sharpened the car’s aerodynamic and mechanical setup for demanding track sessions:
Under the vented aluminum hood, the engine cover receives a retro-inspired styling update reminiscent of classic early-generation Civic Type R powerplants. The mechanical package continues to rely on the proven 2.0-litre turbocharged K20C1 four-cylinder engine built at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio, generating 315 horsepower and 420Nm of torque.
Elevated Cabin Refinement: Heated Seats and Ultrasuede AccentsAddressing long-standing enthusiast feedback regarding everyday livability, the 2027 Civic Type R introduces notable upgrades across the interior:
On the styling palette, the 2027 lineup welcomes a brand-new Meteorite Gray Metallic paint option, joining iconic favorites including Championship White, Rallye Red, Boost Blue Pearl, and Sonic Gray Pearl.
Native Google Gemini Integration and Expanded Honda SensingTechnological connectivity takes a major generational step forward with standard Google built-in, integrating Google Assistant, Google Maps, and the native Google Gemini conversational AI assistant directly into the infotainment workflow. Built-in Amazon Alexa capabilities and wireless smartphone mirroring ensure seamless voice control and digital navigation.
Occupant protection and driver assistance are augmented through the updated Honda Sensing active safety suite, which benefits from improved sensor software.
A newly added Post-Collision Braking System (PCB) simultaneously applies braking force and limits propulsion immediately following an initial collision, significantly reducing the severity and danger of secondary impacts on the highway.
