'Four Hands, Two Sonatas' Episode 11 Recap: Does Jeong-Yo Know The Truth Now?

The eleventh episode of Four Hands, Two Sonatas doesn’t really give us a lot plot wise, but it propels the story forward with one exciting concert and a lot of dread. I wondered how Jeong-Yo would react to the truth, but the one twist that could’ve ended the story a long time ago has happened so late, I’m genuinely surprised by how it makes me realise that the show could’ve ended a long time ago had that one character just put two and two together, or simply spoken to Jeong-Yo when Pi-O was basically dying from playing the piano. While there is one episode of the show left, most of the ground breaking stuff has already occurred, and the two boys can finally take centre stage together, but one more truth apart from the fact that Pi-O’s mother got Jeong-Yo kidnapped comes out unexpectedly this episode, making us wonder if there was ever real friendship between the two boys or not. But considering I’m confusing the two now, let’s jump straight into the 11th episode.

Spoiler Alert

What Happens At The Concert?

Episode 11 begins with Pi-O telling Jeong-Yo to give him the chance to play “Nemesis,” because it is clearly a song  written just for him. Jeong-Yo refuses to give him this special opportunity. I mean in his point of view, this whole thing was to make sure that Pi-O doesn’t pull tricks anymore and knows who’s the boss even today. It is all about his grudge right now, and so he reminds Pi-O that he’s just a player that Jeong-Yo can use and discard as he pleases. In the meantime, Jae-In’s mother tells Pi-O’s mother that it’s time for them to cancel the contract because after his blunder, all his music is doing badly, and the latest album has failed too. Jae-In overhears this conversation and immediately asks her mother how she could do such a thing when Pi-O is their artist, and as managers they need to stick by his side during the hard times. Pi-O’s mother on the other hand continues to spiral. She’s meant to reveal what she’s done, but she continues to stall.

In the meantime, the biggest thing Jae-In does for Pi-O is tell Jeong-Yo about the past and how many years Pi-O spent looking for him across the world. He would never believe Jeong-Yo was dead, clearly for good reason. While Jeong-Yo acts all high and mighty, like he doesn’t believe what Jae-In is saying, the truth is that he knows something feels off and cancels an order to reveal the truth to the world and publicly defame Pi-O. While it seems he’s doing it temporarily, we know it’s going to be a permanent stop. Later, Jeong-Yo and Pi-O’s grandfather, Mr. Kang have a conversation or rather try to wrap up the typical art vs artist debate brought up by Jeong-Yo. Likely in the hope of bringing up what Pi-O has (or has not) done. Mr. Kang dismisses this sentiment and mentions how artists have to be somewhat flawed to create great art. More importantly, Mr. Kang wonders what Jeong-Yo’s intentions are as an artist, or conductor. This is the moral question that the old man would’ve grapple with himself at Jeong-Yo’s age, but Jeong-Yo is blinded by revenge only. In the middle of all this, Pi-O shows up to the building that the meeting is in, despite not being allowed, and plays “Nemesis” to the T. When Jeong-Yo crashes through the door, Pi-O asks if this is the emotion he expected out of his song. Before the day ends, Jeong-Yo’s piano player has a private conversation with him and tells him that he knows that Jeong-Yo has someone else in mind to play this song. I don’t know if this is a realistic scenario considering a lot of money is involved in such a situation, no?

Later, the gangster Kim Se-Jin tries to tell Jeong-Yo that he will help him get back at Pi-O, but Jeong-Yo threatens him to stay away. It’s an interesting change in demeanor, and unexpected of Jeong-Yo. Finally, Jeong-Yo has no choice but to call Pi-O to play his masterpiece. The performance is the dream everyone hoped it would be, and most of the family members, and anyone who matters in this story has tears in their eyes. Even Jeong-Yo feels emotional, actually acknowledging Pi-O’s skill and holding his hand so they can bask in the glory together. It seems almost like they’re friends again, but this time the surprise Pi-O has planned comes up. Pi-O takes a mic and confesses to having Jeong-Yo kidnapped in 2017. He’s so desperate to keep his mom safe.

Does Pi-O’s Mother Confess?

Seeing her son do such an insane thing after the best performance of a lifetime, Pi-O’s mother gets out of the theatre very fast. By this time, Pi-O’s already arrested and taken in for questioning; it’s likely he gave the cops a tip himself. Jeong-Yo can’t believe Pi-O would do such a thing, and is still confused whether it was him who had him kidnapped or not. For some reason, he can’t put two and two together even now. Now for Pi-O’s mom, it’s like crying wolf because why would anyone believe her when her son has already confessed? It’s not some joke, one day one person, the next day another. When she returns home, she finally confesses to her concerned father that it was never Pi-O who hurt his friend, but she was the one who ordered the confession. Mr. Kang clutches his heart and stoops low. What if this is the end for him? Sure looks like that in the preview for tomorrow’s finale.

As the next resort, Pi-O’s mother goes straight to Jeong-Yo and begs him to testify in favor of Pi-O. This goes terribly because Jeong-Yo doesn’t want to listen to anything the woman has to say. Jeong-Yo does end up testifying about Pi-O and says that he only ever heard a rumor that he got fixated on that Pi-O tried to have him killed. More importantly, the PD give Jeong-Yo the thumb drive that has a recording of the meeting between Pi-O and the kidnapper. From that, Jeong-Yo realises there’s no way Pi-O would do such a thing, and now he believes what everyone said to him about Pi-O being the one who continued to search for him for years since he went missing. Jae-In even told him how he completely gave up on life when he heard Jeong-Yo had died. Luckily, none of that turned out to be true.

What Can We Expect From The Finale?

At the end of episode 11, Jeong-Yo finds himself in the worst position knowing that he misjudged his friend. He goes to Pi-O, wondering why he never told him the truth, but Pi-O tells him that even if he didn’t ask for Jeong-Yo to be kidnapped, he would’ve eventually wanted him out of the picture. That’s what happens when you’re second best (I second that). The episode ends with Mr. Kang making the orchestra play Mozart’s last piece. Him saying it was like a prediction of his death, is as if he’s also telling us what’s coming next for him. At least one thing is different now. He genuinely believes in Pi-O’s abilities, and will give him his blessings, of course. While Pi-O’s mom is in prison and tells him that she is finally letting him go, his grandfather ends up collapsing at the concert hall. Will he wake up? Will Pi-O work with Jeong-Yo again? Will they be best friends, who create wonders together? We’ll have to wait for the final episode of Four Hands, Two Sonatas.
