Chief Judge Azizah Nawawi, Senate president Awang Bemee Ali Basah top Sarawak State Awards list

KUCHING, Oct 10: Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Azizah Nawawi and Dewan Negara president Dato’ Awang Bemee Ali Basah will head the list of 1,350 recipients of Sarawak State Awards and Honours, to be conferred by the Sarawak Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, in conjunction with his 80th official birthday celebration.

The grand investiture ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Astana Negeri Sarawak later this morning.

Azizah and Awang Bemee, alongside two others, namely Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Pro-Chancellor Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz and prominent Sarawak businessman Datuk Tay Ah Ching@Tay Chin Kin, will be the recipients of the prestigious Darjah Utama Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Sarawak – Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (PNBS), which carries the title ‘Dato Sri’.

Following them in the honours list are Honourable Justice Dean Wayne Daly; Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts (Tourism) Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Deputy Speaker and Muara Tuang assemblyman Dato Idris Buang, and Sarawak TYT’s senior private secretary Dato’ Sri Syed Hamzah Syed Paie, who are set to receive the Darjah Utama Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Kenyalang Sarawak – Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang (PGK), granting them the title ‘Datuk’.

Meanwhile, six individuals will be conferred the Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak (DJBS), which carries the title ‘Datu’. They are Morshidi Fredrick (permanent secretary of Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak), Dzulkornain Masron (permanent secretary of Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak), Dominic Chunggat (director of Sarawak Agriculture Department), Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin (director of Sarawak Climate and Energy Diplomacy Unit under the Sarawak Premier’s Department), Sarawak Research and Development Council (SRDC) general manager Dr Peter Morin Michael Paong and Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) director Mual Suaud.

Additionally, 22 recipients will be honoured with the Darjah Utama Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Sarawak – Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak (PSBS), carrying the title ‘Dato’. Among them are Senator Rita Sarimah Patrick Insol, Senator Susan Chemerai Anding, Krian assemblyman Friday Belik, Sarawak Education director Omar Mahli, Sarawak Health director Dr Veronica Lugah, Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund (SSWFF) chief executive officer (CEO) Abang Rahmat Yusuf, Sarawak Microelectronics Design (SMD) Semiconductor Sdn Bhd CEO Shariman Jamil, 32nd Commander of the First Infantry Division Major General Mohd Sobirin Mohd Yusof, and Sarawak’s former Commissioner of Police Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah.
