From 2019 to last November, a company director, along with his elder sister, spent a total of RM600,000 to help their father to clear off debts he owed to loan sharks.
Sadly, it wasn’t enough to deter their father from his errant ways as he kept borrowing money from illegal moneylenders, making life a living hell for his two children.
Cut ties with dad over debtsSpeaking at a press conference while accompanied by MCA Youth deputy national chief Neow Choo Seong, 31-year-old named Lee said his father, Lee Chee Wai, often approached him and his sister to ask for money.
Lee added that his father owed RM35,000 to loan sharks in November 2025, which forced him and his sister to pay the amount out of pocket.
“After paying the debt, both of us decided to cut ties with our father, as well as come up with a formal agreement which states we would take legal action against him if he came to us asking for money again.“Even though our dad signed the agreement, it didn’t stop him from continuing to borrow from loan sharks,” recounted Lee.
Fake obituary noticeOn Sept 29, 2026, Lee and his sister began receiving messages from strangers who informed them that their father allegedly owed loan sharks RM10,000.
Both of them then filed three separate police reports, only to have loan sharks hot on their heels hours later.
“They also sent me a screenshot of a fake obituary with my name on it, where it stated that my funeral will be held in three days’ time,” said Lee.
Lee called upon the loan sharks to stop harassing both him and his sister, adding that they should go after the real debtor.
The siblings also condemned their father, who’s currently uncontactable, for treating them like “human ATMs” for the past eight years.
