'MobLand' Season 2 Episode 8 Trailer Breakdown

[Spoiler Alert] Episode 7 of MobLand Season 2 ended with Harry rescuing Paul from Frankie’s clutches by threatening to kill Frankie and his son, Michael (who was in Newgate Prison). How did things come to that? After burying Conrad’s dogs, Harry, Kevin, Paul, and Conrad hit the streets to weed out the betrayers from the loyalists. During that trip, Harry took a little detour after finding Donnie’s address in the notepad that Conrad had used to jot down details while torturing JoJo. Harry found Donnie dead; he ordered Zosia to clean up the place; he himself took care of Donnie’s car, and he returned to the yard with Jan’s gun, assuming that he and Kevin would be able to spend some time on finding her. That was when he got a call from Paul. Much like Harry, Paul had taken a detour too, to meet his ex fling, Sicily. Except Sicily had been used by Frankie to trap Paul. Frankie tried to use Paul to set a trap for the Harrigans, but Paul tipped off Harry during the call by using the word “bro.” So, instead of bringing any of the Harrigans for the meeting with Frankie, Harry walked into the casino, where Frankie was waiting for him with Paul and Sicily, all by himself. Since Sicily had served her purpose, Frankie killed her. Then he turned to Harry and asked him how he planned to get out of that casino with Paul in one piece. Harry said the words “Newgate Prison” and Frankie immediately folded, thereby allowing Paul and Harry to exit the casino unscathed. Why did Frankie take a step back? Because Newgate was where Frankie’s son, Michael, was imprisoned, and Frankie didn’t want to jeopardize his life. However, the damage had been done, and Harry had already put out the hit on Michael. Based on the teaser trailer for MobLand Season 2 episode 8, what can we expect to see next week? Let’s find out.
It looks like episode 8 of MobLand Season 2 is going to introduce a new villain: Mad Dog, Medusa’s son. We see a shot of a funeral, which is evidently for Medusa. Gina is on the phone with someone, maybe Eddie or Maeve, and telling them that Mad Dog has recently been released from prison. That statement is followed by a shot of Mad Dog attending Medusa’s funeral and saying that he is going to find the person responsible for his death. After that, he heads to the pub that Medusa had visited before he died, and he goes through the CCTV footage of Eddie and Gina. It’s unclear how Gina learns about Mad Dog’s vengeance mission, but she does manage to convey that piece of information to Maeve (most probably via Eddie) and, for the first time in a long time, Maeve can be seen freaking out for real. Well, she should be afraid, because this is the second time in the span of around two years that she has invited trouble into the family by using Eddie as her whimsical little instrument. The war with the Stevensons was totally avoidable, but she triggered it to bring out the “real Conrad.” What did she actually get out of it? A fractured family. Now she has attracted the ire of Mad Dog because of her unplanned decision to train Eddie to be a proper heir to the Harrigan empire. If Medusa was one of the hardest criminals in the entirety of Ireland, it’s safe to assume that Mad Dog will be as “hard” as his dad. The Harrigans are already struggling to deal with Kat. If Mad Dog gets added to their list of troubles, they might just sink. That said, it’s possible that Mad Dog won’t go after all the Harrigans; just Eddie and Gina. I guess there weren’t any CCTV cameras at Medusa’s lair, which is why Mad Dog doesn’t know that Harry is the one who killed his dad. Well, if Mad Dog goes after Gina (and Eddie), he’ll immediately learn why that’s not a smart move. Also, I can totally see Maeve getting sidelined after this incoming fiasco, because it’s no secret that the potential enmity with Mad Dog is her fault. So, it’s possible that after dealing with Mad Dog, Harry is going to convince Conrad, or whoever takes charge in his stead, to bench Maeve, as she is a massive liability. By the way, much like how I had sided with the Stevensons, I am totally in support of Mad Dog’s revenge mission. Similar to the Stevensons, Medusa and Mad Dog were minding their own business; it’s the Harrigans who showed up in their backyard and wreaked havoc. So, yeah, I hope Mad Dog does get to do some proper damage to the Harrigans and doesn’t croak as unceremoniously as his dad.
Three small scenes in the teaser pretty much confirm that Michael is dead. We see Frankie on a phone call with Harry. Harry says something along the lines of how every war reaches a point where they start killing their own people, and that the war between him and Frankie has reached that point. Frankie is in tears, which is a sight that we haven’t seen until now. That’s followed by a shot of someone setting off an alarm, most possibly in a jail. The only reason Frankie could be crying is because he has received news of Michael’s death. People on the internet thought that Harry wouldn’t go as far as killing Frankie’s kid. But what you don’t understand is that Harry is done playing fair. He has had enough of Frankie. His boss has declared war. So, everything’s fair game to Harry now. And the thing about Michael is that he isn’t some innocent kid; he is a jailed convict. Hence, Harry won’t feel guilty for killing him, because he’s simply ridding the world of another criminal. The alarm has probably been triggered by the guard who has found Michael’s body (most likely staged to look like a suicide, because that’s a classic). But what could his “killing people on your own side” line possibly mean? I feel that Harry is putting the blame of Michael’s death on Frankie. He is messing with Frankie’s head by convincing him that he has pushed Michael into the pits of hell by going head to head with the Harrigans. If he hadn’t done that, Michael would have been alive. However, since he got greedy and ambitious, his son ended up paying for it. To be honest, that’s true, and not just a case of psych warfare. The Harrigans had no clue who Frankie was until he showed up at their doorstep; so, they wouldn’t have bothered with his son either. That said, is Harry going to stop at Michael? Nope. I have a strong feeling that, as Frankie starts gearing up for revenge, Harry is going to step on his throat and kill him before he lays another finger on the Harrigans. In addition to all that, it seems like Harry is going to deal with the Jan problem. After killing Donnie, Jan went AWOL and she was unreachable on the phone. But, in episode 8, she has resurfaced, and she wants Harry’s help with that matter. On the legal front, Jan actually doesn’t have anything to worry about, because Harry has already made sure that the crime can’t be traced back to Jan. On the psychological side though, yes, Jan might need some help getting over the trauma of being used as a pawn by Donnie, and the guilt of murdering him. I suppose Harry is going to suggest she spend some time away from London; once she is feeling better, she can return home; or if she feels that she has nothing to come back to, she can start afresh somewhere else; I’m sure Harry can arrange for that.
The teaser for episode 8 of MobLand Season 2 ends with a tantalizing meeting between Kevin and Conrad. It looks like Conrad has finally decided to come clean about the fact that his mind is not quite alright. There are shots where he is in the woods, fighting enemies that aren’t there. He knows that if he talks about this with Maeve, she will kill him for being a liability. Seraphina can’t be trusted anymore. Bella and Conrad don’t have the kind of bond where they can have a conversation on this matter. Even though Eddie is Conrad’s son, they aren’t exactly on speaking terms. He can confide in Harry, but maybe he suspects that Harry is looking for an excuse to bench him, and he might use Conrad’s mental health issues to put him in the hospice or something so that he can run the ship without waiting for Conrad’s approval on everything. That leaves him with Kevin. Regardless of how many times Conrad fights with Kevin, he knows that Kevin is the only one empathetic (and weak) enough to listen to him and bat for him. Yes, there’s a slim chance that Kevin might use Conrad’s weakness against him, but the most likely thing for him to do is support Conrad through these tough times, even if it means risking his own life. We can see Conrad pointing his gun at Kevin during one of his manic episodes, and Kevin urging him to pull the trigger, probably in the hopes that that’s what’ll snap him back to reality. Although Conrad’s way of expressing that he is facing psychological issues is chaotic, I think it’s a good thing that he is accepting that he can’t steer the Harrigan ship on his own. He is way past his prime and he needs assistance. However, what is actually causing said psychological issues? Is it really his age, or is it Maeve’s antifreeze? There’s a good chance it’s the former, but if this season ends up becoming a “Maeve Humiliation Ritual” session, we might see Kevin and Conrad discovering that Maeve has been slowly poisoning Conrad, which is causing him to hallucinate and have angry outbursts. This is just speculation, but if that turns out to be true, Conrad might end his relationship with Maeve by putting a bullet in her head. Now, those are all my observations from the 31 second teaser for the upcoming episode of MobLand Season 2. If you think I have missed anything, please, let me know in the comments section below.
