'Yaga' Episode 3 Recap & Ending Explained: What Was Logan’s Secret?

At the very end of the previous episode of Yaga, we get a glimpse of Logan’s body lying on the beach. Rapp, who is hallucinating (mostly because of drugs and also because there’s something evil and magical about the small fishing town), assumes that it’s Henry who is found dead. Only after getting a close look at the body and being repeatedly told that it’s Logan does Rapp realize that he’s wrong, Logan is the one who has been killed. But why would someone kill Henry’s roommate? Did he offend the killer by trying to impersonate Henry? The fact that the killer had castrated Logan suggests that they surely despised him. Will Rapp and Carson figure out the motive behind his murder? Also, where’s Henry? Let’s do a quick deep dive into episode 3 of Yaga.

Spoiler Alert

How was Logan killed?

After the initial forensic examination, we learn that the cause of death was an abdominal stab wound, and he was murdered between 3 AM and 4 AM, which meant he was killed during the house party, probably after Carson chased him and eventually lost track of him. The murderer had castrated him before stabbing him in the abdomen and pushing him out of the window. He was intoxicated when he was killed, and according to his oxytocin levels, he ejaculated before he was murdered. This probably explains that it was Logan who was in Henry’s room when he asked the person he was getting intimate with to call him “Henry” (according to what Carson and Rapp had overheard).

The forensic expert also showed Carson and Rapp what was possibly used to kill Logan. A broken piece of a tool made from obsidian and human bone was found inside his body. Since Katherine is the town’s bone expert, they naturally went to her to find some answers. She explained that the markings on the tool suggested it was from the Aztec period, and the symbols were associated with sexual desire and fertility. She came to the conclusion that it was a ceremonial midwife’s sacrificial knife, and that it could’ve been sharp enough for the purpose it had served. Since no fingerprints had been found on the tool, it could have belonged to pretty much anyone at the party. Later, when Rapp spoke to Katherine in private, he discovered that in the podcast Henry had recorded with Katherine, they spoke about Baba Yaga and eating bones. Clearly, Yaga was a topic of interest for Katherine, and when Rapp asked her more about this Slavic witch, she humorously stated that she only consumed the bones of very naughty children. Although Rapp was curious to listen to the podcast, it wasn’t available online, and Katherine didn’t hint at where he could find it. Were there some obvious clues that Rapp could derive from the podcast? Was Logan punished by someone who considered themselves the Baba Yaga of the small town? Since Katherine seems clearly investigated in this legend, does she have a role to play in the murder? You don’t find an Aztec knife online, so someone must have the connections to get hold of something this ancient, and right now, Katherine sure looks very suspicious!

What did Alice reveal about Logan and Henry?

Carson decided to meet Logan’s mother, Alice, and share the news of her son’s demise. It was obviously a lot for Alice to process, and she blamed the Parks for Logan’s murder. She absolutely despised Henry’s mother, Dora Park, she called her a “gold-digging snake” and thought there was something so evil about the family that whoever came close to them perished. Dora used to wait tables in Whittock, and her falling in love and marrying the owner of the commercial fishery company was often seen as a gold-digger move. Even though Alice didn’t trust the Parks, she couldn’t stop Logan when he decided to live with Henry, because they weren’t financially well off and she didn’t want to hold her son back. She explained that while living with Henry, Logan completely reinvented himself. He grew his hair out, started working out all the time, and stopped visiting her.

Alice also didn’t trust Pam at all, she felt it was not just Henry who’d ruined her son, but also Pam. The three of them apparently bought a laying hen from Geena and planned to sacrifice it. She believed that the devil had gotten hold of them, and she failed as a mother to protect her child. Alice added that evil was in their blood, and although she didn’t directly state it, it was suggested that Logan was Mr. Park’s illegitimate son. Considering Henry and Logan looked pretty much the same, it’s not even a surprise! But the question is whether or not Logan knew about it. If he did, then he obviously had reason strong enough to be envious of Henry. He had everything that Logan and his mother were denied, and that explains why he so desperately wanted to be like Henry. Did someone kill Logan because he was dabbling in black magic? That still remains a mystery!

What did Rapp and Carson find in Logan’s room?

After Alice made the shocking revelation, Carson and Rapp headed to Henry’s house to check Logan’s room. He was killed there, and according to Carson, he completely vanished from the room. There was something strange going on there, and the last time they visited the house, Logan didn’t let them into his room. The chicken motif is clearly crucial here; a dried chicken foot was found in Henry’s room, according to Alice, Logan and his friends sacrificed a hen, and Baba Yaga was said to live in a hut with chicken legs. The supernatural is tying all the elements together. It looks like the answer Rapp and Carson are looking for will be twisted and strange.

Surprisingly, Logan had a picture of Henry’s mother in his room, was it just an obsession or did he actually plan to put a curse on the family? While examining the murder scene, Carson came to the conclusion that the murder was committed by two people, because otherwise it would have been impossible to carry his dead weight and push him out of the window. They also found the drug that Angel had given Rapp at the party in Logan’s medicine cabinet, and they wondered if Logan used it in small doses to drug Henry. The container also had the same symbol that Rapp had previously seen tattooed on Angel’s abdomen, and also in one of the pictures in Henry’s room. Maybe this is a clear indication of a cult-like situation? Perhaps Logan was part of this cult, and he somehow betrayed them, which was why they killed him? Well, Rapp surely believed in the possibility that Logan was desperate to become Henry, and that he’d used black magic to attain it. Of course, the theory was a stretch, but considering how things looked, the conclusion wasn’t that absurd. But then how did Logan disappear when Carson was chasing him? Rapp soon found the secret chamber in Logan’s room, where he presumably hid himself when Carson had entered. The secret chamber looked quite sinister, with red lights and recording devices. Logan had mentioned that he had an interest in music and sound recording and he was evidently quite serious about it. They discovered a shelf full of tapes, properly dated, and when they played the tape that was in the recorder they realized it was recorded the day Logan was murdered. In the audio, Logan was asking a girl to call him “Henry,” he was quite assertive about it. She had agreed to call him “Henry,” and it seemed like that was the only reason Logan had agreed to get intimate with her. Since the whole conversation took place in Henry’s room, Carson and Rapp realized that Logan must have hidden a secret mic in his room. Rapp went to check and he figured their hunch was right, he found a tiny microphone hidden in a showpiece on the bedside table. When Rapp directly spoke into the microphone, Carson noticed that the recorder automatically started recording. Both Rapp and Carson arrived at the conclusion that Logan was a pervert! It’s obviously a very creepy setup, and clearly, Logan was obsessed with Henry to a concerning degree. Did he have feelings for Henry? Was that why he secretly listened in on him making love? The more you think about it, the worse it gets! When they listened to the entire recording from the night he was murdered, they discovered that the woman Logan got cozy with was Pam, so the roommates had been sleeping with the same woman? Was that what got Logan killed?

At the very end of episode 3, Rapp noticed a drop of wax on the floor. It made him curious, and when he checked under the bed, he discovered that the symbol he’d previously seen was drawn on the floor with wax, and there were a few chicken feathers as well. This obviously confirms that the three friends must have partaken in some strange ritual. Did that backfire? Did it mess with Henry’s head and make him leave? Did they mess up the ritual? Well, the ending leaves us with a lot more questions, but very few answers. We still don’t know where Henry is, but maybe Pam can provide us with some useful information, unless she is the one who murdered Logan! Everyone looks pretty suspicious right now, there is a lot that the town is trying to hide, but for how long?
